13.1.  How to I Play MKV files on PlayStation 3 (PS3)?
While the PlayStation 3 (PS3) console does not support the MKV multimedia container (March, 2008), that does not mean you cannot play video and audio stored in MKV on the PlayStation 3 (PS3) without re-encoding. We have two guides for this on AfterDawn.

The first guide we have is the best choice. This guide converts the MKV into an .M2TS file quickly which will work on your PlayStation 3 console (H.264/AVC with AC3 audio). The link for this guide is below..

The second guide shows how to quickly convert MKV into a VOB file that the PS3 will play. While this method does mean there is support for DTS audio, it is no longer considered as efficient as the M2TS guide (linked above).
