HD DVD-RHD DVD-R is a recordable version of the HD DVD optical disc format. Like DVD-R, HD DVD-R is a write-once media and so written data cannot be erased from the disc. HD DVD-R comes in two variants; single layer, which can store up to 15GB of data and dual layer, which can store up to 30GB of data. At the current time (July 2007), HD DVD burners are in general, more scarcely used than their Blu-ray disc counterparts.
HD DVD-RAM is another writeable version of the HD DVD optical disc format.

I have a few HD DVD-R blank discs that I bought a while ago. Are these coasters at this point, or can I burn data onto them somehow? I can't find any leftover HD DVD burners. I guess there are none around because they never really became available before the format died. Anyway, is there anything I can do with one of these, other than placing my beer on it?

I shots some home made movies on a sony HD camcorder using HD DVD-R disk. I don't have the software to use to transfer the file to my desktop computer. Is there any other software I can use so my computer will recognize the HD DVD-R disk. For now I can only watch the movie on my PS3 system. Eventually, I would like to transfer the movie file to my computer for back up.
