Mounting CD Images onto Virtual CD Drives

If you have your SVCD movies on Image files on your HDD, then you will need to mount the Image files onto Virtual CD Drives. Ok so somebody is going to ask "Why didn't you just rip the MPEG files using VCDGear?". Well there is no point because if you just mount them, TMPGEnc or MPEG VCR will merge them straight from the DAT files in the Images to one MPEG file on your HDD and I like to keep things simple. Now, you have two options here, you can use Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120%. I like Alcohol 120% because I am used to it but if you are new and don't want to pay money, then grab Daemon Tools, it's actually a lot easier at first. The first I'll explain is Daemon Tools.

Mounting CD Images with Daemon Tools

First install Daemon Tools and run the program. Now look in the System Tray (The little icons of programs running at the bottom right hand corner or the screen by the time). You will see the red Daemon Tools icon there, right click it and go to Virtual CD/DVD-ROM. Move the mouse over Set number of devices. Now the amount of Virtual Drives you select is up to you. If you have two movies to go on one DVDR, and each movie is two CDs, then you only need 2 Virtual Drives. Now you really have to listen here. Mount your first movie, by going to Device 0: and clicking mount image. Browse to your CD Image (select the .cue file if it's a bin/cue image) and select it. Now mount the second CD Image (which would be CD2 or Part 2 of the movie) on the next Virtual Drive. Now go to your My Computer folder and you will see two extra CD drives, which now look like they have two SVCD's in them. It is VERY IMPORTANT to remember that after you merge the two together (which is next in the guide) you will have to come back and mount the next movie onto Virtual Drives using the same method as above. Now before we get on to merging the files to create the mpeg files, I will explain how to mount with Alcohol 120%.

Mounting CD Images with Alcohol 120%

Alcohol 120% is an excellent program and is worth adding to your software collection. To mount CD Images with it, first you have to set the number of Virtual CD Drives you want. Do this by clicking Virtual Drive under the Options on the left. Look at the pic that accompanies this text and set the number of drives you want. If you have two SVCD movies, both on two CDs then select two virtual drives and click OK. Now when you get back to the Alcohol main screen, right click and click Add Images. Add all the images that will need to be mounted. Now mount the first movie by right clicking the image in the list and clicking mount on device. Mount the first movie and get ready to merge (the next step). Remember after you have finished the merging part you will have to mount the next movie to merge that too.

After Mounting Images

What we will be doing now is merging the movie files on each mounted image to the next to make the full movie in one MPEG file. Most SVCD movies are on two CDs so that's what we will be doing, merging the two together so that they become one file instead. Move on to the next step to merge now.
