Sony is losing a bunch of $$$ on the PS3

(BTW the No chip PS3 uses emulation to run games and as long as sony backs the upgrading of it ,it can go 100% and add extra filtering and other video/speed hacks to make games play better)

yes they are at the same doing a large shift with a console(like makign a new console or going to a higher standered) is going to cost lots of money MS lots b/m illions on the Xbox and lots some on the 360 but they get that money back, sony risked big and its not paid off yet, they should have built the PS3 without the wireless stuff thats almsot 200 right there, that with a 399 price point would have made the PS3 be out of stock and sell like hotcakes, and since it would be sold out they would be making their money from the advancement of BR and off games, lets face it if sony had the foresight to price point the PS3 right it would have been like the WII and probably won the HDVD/BR war.
FIGHT THE M.A.F.I.A.A.

PS3 backward compatibility with emulation is already really good if you install the latest firmware, making the need for the Emotion Engine obsolete. Just check their site for a complete overview.
As to leaving out wifi and the like I have a different opinion. I love the fact they put everything in the box from the get-go, even if it ups the price. That way I don't have to go through the hassle of installing extra stuff and everything works out of the box.

Yeah, BUT YOU ALSO PAY A LOT FOR IT TOO! The point was, that if they had of introduced a CHEAPER system, they would not be in the hole they are now trying to dig theirselves out of with the PS3.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a cheaper console and a more expensive console if you want to upgrade. People should be given a CHOICE....unless you think you own the world like Sony did and was proven wrong. Sony in their arrogance, thought they could just charge any price they wanted and everyone would still go for it....but as it turns out, only the fanboys have been loyal so far!

It depends on what kind of gamer you are if you are still a owner of old PS2 & PS1 titles then it would be great to have BWC but if you don't care for old last gen titles then it really don't mean anything to you.
Originally posted by Zippy: I have mixed feelings about it,BWC should be a integral part the system by doing it this way they can wonder off at anytime leaving BWC broken or at 70%.
As long as sony works on BWC and dose not abaonded it its ok,but in this quick cash sort sighted age...it just gives me a headache to think about it...
I don't see Sony droping BWC because they have stay true to BWC since they started making consoles.Plus there are still some good titles still to come on PS2,like Manhunt 2

Well it says there going to do it on the software end and not the hardware end. So if they write the software correctly BWC should be around 60-70% while saving money to boot.

Why do yall keep saying you dont have a choice. You do have a choice to buy or not to buy. Its the same MO as all the games companies and mainly Sony and M$. M$ screws you with repeated systems that are partly done and make those of you loyalist spend more money for a system that they will say hey we still more to add on the next one. All Sony did was hit you up in the beginning and possibly with the rumble controller later. I dont have a problem with that. I rather have up front charges then hidden im slap you in the head later with charges.

you PS3 nutters are missing a glaring point, its like the 360 fools that think nothing of the fail rates or the fact the 360 steals PC games.
Becuse of that high cost and the high architecture on it DEVS WONT WANT TO MAKE GAMES FOR IT,without the 3rd party games what dose the PS3 because? a GC thats what it becomes,it will have a few good titles but bear bones if any really good 3rd party support since everyone is goign to the WII.
SO basically the PS3 becomes something like a cross between the Xbox and the GC with a BR player..this is impressive...not...

This means if you dont have the US PS3 and you decide to mod your system
you may not have BWC on all games since it seems Sony will be doing what they do with the PSP and release firmware updates often

meh its no worse than the 360,with the systems connected to the net you'll have to get 2...it defeats the purpose of being cheap tho LOL

I heard there might be more features stripped out from 80 GB modell other than just emotion chip. How about this? Does anyone think 80 GB PS3 will include rumble controller?

NexGen76
oh please look at the current state of the industry with all the back sliding and double speak going on do you really think they would fully support it? I believe they will drop it the first minute they get the chance and claim BWC is not needed or other BS.
with BWC being highly dependent on the net,it just adds up to they should have had BWC ready at launch, the chip should not need to be removed they should have removed the wireless stuff and drop the price to 399 to help build the brand back up..
and yes I am still pissed about the Xbox nya nya nya on BWC,fing morons.....
:P

So $100 and 20gb of HDD as far as I can make out.
.......but I don't see any big fuss about $100 for just 20gbs of HDD, funny that, eh?

the lowest price is 109,the highest 180,,sony should plan ahead a bit they make thier own drives or at least get them cheap in volume so "100" for it is reasonable.

hardly a improvement out of the box side to side the one without the EE chip dose 20-30% less PSX/PS2 games, they can improve it over time but sony bing sony will drop it first chance they get.
a bit of interesting news I found, altho its hard to tell which PR head is speaking the truth...
