Verbatim making mini Blu-ray discs as well

3 August 2007 16:49 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 12 comments

Verbatim making mini Blu-ray discs as well The Verbatim Corporation has announced that they too will be offering mini Blu-ray recordable media.

The specs offered by Verbatim say the discs, with 7.5GB capacity, can provide almost one hour of continuous video when HD (1920×1080i) is used and almost 2 hours when recorded at 1440×1080i.

The mini Blu-ray discs will be available later this month in Japan and the company will begin shipping the discs elsewhere as BD-compatible camcorders become more readily available.

According to DailyTech, the new discs will "share similar performance characteristics of its standard (12 cm) BD media, including technologies developed by MKM to guard against deterioration. The proprietary hard-coat finish on Verbatim BD media features anti-static and anti-scratch properties for added protection against scratches, fingerprints and dust particles that can occur during normal camcorder and home use."

The media are currently in production in Japan.

Thats better, TDK isn't known so much now for their quality. However, Verbatim is one of the top quailty media producers worldwide. :-)

I see, so the Blu-ray camcorder is just all about a physically small disc now is it?

Less than 8gb, each disc costs a fortune and it records @ 1080i.

    Cooooo.

    You're welcome to it.

HD DVD drives & burners are available in laptops/notebooks and have been for some time now.

They just haven't been concentrating on PCs (preferring their stand-alones & the thin drives for the time being).

    They'll be coming soon enough
(but with a 'market' comprised mainly of the pirates amoungst us it's not exactly a big surprise they did not prioritise us, eh?).

This is another brand but i have to say the best brand for this kinda thing but this size is still too small for the new HD format.
