DirecTV to carry new MGM network

MGM will be bringing their movie library of over 4,000 titles to a hi-def cable network called MGM HD. DirecTV has already signed a deal to carry the new network. It will be advertiser supported.

Harry Sloan, chairman and CEO of MGM said �The growth of the MGM library and the further expansion of the MGM channels worldwide are the studio�s primary objectives.� MGM already owns movie networks in over 100 other countries.

Eventually the Channel will add movie related promotional content, but at the beginning they'll concentrate on the movies themselves.

DirecTV executive Derek Chang says the satellite television provider intends �to launch up to 100 HD channels by the end of the year.� With the mandatory switch from analog to digital television getting closer, and the number of HDTV viewers growing this seems like an obvious move.

Im paying $9.99/mo for about 20hd channels...wonder how much directv is gonna rape us on 100+ channels. [ + quote]

To be honest the way prices are with DirecTV I may not even switch to their HD programming due to all the crazy pricing. They should at least give the premium HD channels for free if you already subsribe to it. Why do I have to pay extra for a channel that I already pay for just to watch it in superb quality? DirecTV can kiss my A$$. [ + quote]

there probably wont be a charge... I work for Directv and have not heard anything about an "extra" charge.. who knows.. but hey.. If they do charge a lil more... Does your cable company have that many HD channels?? Guess not.. [ + quote]

LOL..."Direct TV, the company of 100 empty promises" Even if Direct TV actually meets a target date they set I will not be switching to them. They have proven time and time again that they are all about the hype and can rarely meet a deadline. DishNetwork has so far given me exactly what they have promissed. I highly doubt D* will be able to keep their HD programming at $10. This will piss of alot of current customers. [ + quote]

DirecTV can kiss my A$$. There are two pricing methods. One is for Sat. the other is Cable, which I have. You can either pay 20 dollars a month or whatever you pay for the HD channels, and get all of them. Or you can pay Comcast 100 dollars a month, and not even get all of the HD channels. Even thou I only watch A&E in HD, I have to pay for the whole package which includes standard def. A&E. If I want to watch NFL HD. I have to buy the whole sports package which comes with NFL and NFL HD. If I could pay 20 dollars just for the HD channels life would be GREAT. [ + quote]
