Microsoft to step up its anti-piracy efforts in China

7 November 2007 18:21 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 8 comments

Microsoft to step up its anti-piracy efforts in China Microsoft has come to an agreement with China's second largest computer manufacturer, Founder, in which more and more new computers will come with genuine copies of Windows pre-installed.

The agreement follows an almost identical deal with the country's top manufacturer Lenovo, both of which were made as an effort to curb the rampant piracy of Microsoft software in China.

Microsoft chairman Steve Ballmer called the deal an "essential part" of its Chinese strategy and said Windows would now come on every new personal computer sold and about 40 percent of business computers.

According to the BSA, up to 82 percent of all software used in China is illegally obtained.

I know that piracy's a problem in china, but I feel MS has an underlying reason to try and push there OS in china, maybe to find a market for vista? After all a lot of American consumers and company's want nothing to do with it. So kill two birds with one stone, dump a bloated drm laden OS and help stop "piracy". Capitalism at it's finest!

LMAO they find out the majority of computer users in the US hate the new bloated OS so they're going to ram it down someone else's throat. Capitalism at it's finest, yes indeed, priceless is more like it for using communism to get what they want their product on computers.

Chinese geeks aren't stupid. The gang at 9down.com is a step ahead of Micro$oft, with their early service packs, WGA crax and so on. They're not crazy over VISTA either. I've been using the new Windows XP-SP-3.3205 since August...

One of the reasons people pirate software is DRM. Good thing Vista has nothing to do with DRM...

Just another reason to make more money and cover their loses after releasing Vista. It is hard to believe China uses up to 82% illegal software. Microsoft wants another piece of the pie!
