AOL outsources to Unbox

3 December 2007 18:10 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 5 comments

AOL outsources to Unbox After having its own video download service for the last year, AOL has cited sluggish sales and will be ending the service while outsourcing its videos to Amazon's Unbox.

The companies said there would be a revenue splitting model for videos sold through AOL. No financial details were released however.

According to Compete.com, AOL video only had a tiny 6% market share, clearly not enough to compete with iTunes or Unbox.

It's amazing how AOL just keeps trying and trying regardless of their failures. I mean I'm all for the motto 'try try again' but AOL's time has been up for years.

Agreed...........and hence their reason for merging (purchasing) Time-Warner. When you know the jig is up, you throw yourself a lifeline. I am so anti-AOL that if I even see those three letters on a computer, I double check what it is and assuming it's Amer. Online, I delete the folder, file and registry entries. Can you say "wiped" AOL?

AOL should just change their name to SOL.

For 6% of the pie it would not be worth it and they made a smart choice to pull out of the deal as of now.
