Nintendo DS will finish on top

12 December 2007 14:53 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 29 comments

Nintendo DS will finish on top Although the year is not over yet, Nintendo senior VP George Harrison has predicted, and with good reason, that its DS handheld will be the top-selling video game system of 2007.

Through November 30th, 6 million handhelds have been sold, converting to a rate of one sold every seconds.

"There's no letup in sight,"
says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "Nintendo DS appeals strongly to both core and casual gamers, and its momentum is set to propel us into 2008."

For the Thanksgiving week, 650,000 DSs were sold, breaking the all-time record for the week, previously held by the Game Boy Advance, which moved 600,000 units two years ago.

piff DS is better as game machine I sold my PSP because it was just a lame PDA.
Hey Zippy, we agree on something. Some people just prefer their lame cartoon violence and shun the DS, where the solid games really are.

the PSP is just lame its a generic PSX clone would have been better if they went with a full dual analog stick setup and did it right the first time.. prehaps the PSP 2 will have 2 sticks a d pad and all the other buttons... then it would work perfectly for ports and newer games....if people would start making games on it....

another worth while add on for the PSP would be a DVD player, face it UMD is the fail for a portable movie setup.

This is great news for the DS, i love both DS and PSP. It all just depends on what games you enjoy. Tho i must say that if there was ever a Super Smash Bros for the DS, then that will kill all competition. The DS has a remarkable list of good games, its at the right price, and the Lite version is very sleek so its no wonder it is where it is.

PSP will get there im sure, the price is getting closer to the DS and offers alot more functions so thats a plus, with more battery life on the slimmer model is cool n the ability to hook up to the tv to play it even bigger is really cool. Cuz when Crisis Core FF, and God of War comes out for it then that would be sick as well.

So ya, i think all portable systems are good in their own way. Nintendo is doing an outstanding job, keep it up.

god is always about battery life. well jeeze if the DS wasnt an unde powered PDA N64 with a stylus then it prolly would last as long as the PSP.

the psp has balls and graphics why do people always talk about battery life. just accept it. besides if u want a longer lasting battery. buy a bigger one. thats what the aftermarket is for.

the DS and Wii appeal to the same demographic. no one over 20 is gonna be messing with a DS anyway. the games are aimed at kids too. the PSP is aimed at more average gamers. dang this is so old. good for Nintendo already. it will be like NEVER before anyone unseats nintendo for top Hand held sales.

personally i think the PSP is better. the DS has like 2 games i wanna play on it. the PSP has far more appeal and power. nuff said.

    No crap. Thanks Tips.

They're way cheaper, which s why I bought one. Most of the games are too kiddish for me. I like the Marios and Pokemon and Animal Crossing, but they get boring after a while, plus you can do so much more with the PSP(with the CFW of course). I've always liked Sony over Nintendo, except for the Gameboy series and of course SNES and NES, which I have on my PSP :P

well like some guy said above, games just depend on the person. yea psp has good games, ds has good games also. lets just say they both are good in there own ways.

but the ds also can play snes and nes on it too. everything the psp emulation can play, the ds can, besides the n64...darn..

PSP has better battery life and graphics than DS? I wouldn't push it that far. IMHO some DS titles look smoother/sharper than what's on the PSP. I've had a DS for about 3 years and it still holds a charge that I can use for my hour lunch break... for WEEKS at a time. It's better than my iPod for battery life!

Oh, and to inform you, I'm 26. I was 23 when I got my DS. Guess I'm abnormal, retarded or slow since I'm "too old" to be messing with it.

Actually, the DS (and Wii) has captured the widest demographic for video game consoles. While the largest adopters for nintendo systems are still in the younger-age group, the "nintendo is for kiddies" approach is really just fanboy fodder.

    I'm 14 and I hate the DS.

The Wii is pretty sweet... I'm still getting a PS3 first(ha), but my sister will probably get the Wii anyways so it's win-win. Just got a new LCD for the basement too :)

I dunno the DS has a lot of cell shaded and smoothed shaded games the PSP is going for sharp pictures, I think the PSP has more power in order to do better 3D, in some ways its like comparing the Saturn and the PSX in the alter years(jaggies aside), the PSP has a better design power and bat system but even so the games are crap and the UDM movie format bunk if you have the money you can turn it into a fine PDA/music/movie thing that can do some games its really what you do with it...I prefer gaming and emulation on the big screen thank you.... frankly would rather have a player to add on to the WII or cube....

and suck ass games with crappy ports, thats the sticking point and you can not get past that unless you are getting it for media.

Also the DS emulators are another 2-4 years from running 80% of DS games so PSP DS emulation will be at least that long not to mention screen warp and other issues.

I have a PSP, kids have a DS each. I think the DS games are more fun to play, much more interactive and generally much better. Nintendo are well and truly onto a winner with this little thing. PSP games just dont compare in the fun stakes. As for flash, i cant even watch a youtube vid on my PSP.

Better CPU SRAM - Yup and it needs it to run the games it plays because they are more graphically intense.

Faster - Well I never see lag in DS games, because most are 2-D which doesn't push the DS to its limits(though there are many pretty 2-D DS games). I've seen slowdown in PSP games.

Internet w/flash - Horray? Internet on PSP/DS is horrible period, it is a useless feature.

Homebrew Enabled - It isn't enable, you have to mess with a lot of things that people aren't comfortable with doing. It is about as homebrew enabled as the DS is.

PSP will run DS games - No. Absolutely not. PC DS emulation doesn't even run 100% on my PC, which is about 6 - 8 times more powerful than a PSP. PSP doesn't even do all SNES games 100%(special chip games tend to slow down). Even if it were to happen, like 3/4 of the library will be unplayable due to lack of touch screen.

GBA games - Ummm the DS has a GBA slot, so any GBA homebrew device(or a 3 n 1 to read from the DS slot) makes GBA games possible and running 100% perfectly, not emulated.

SAGA games - It's SEGA moron, and the DS does it quite well. Sound is still an issue, but compatibility on Jenesis(the DS Genesis emulator) is quite high and runs many at 60fps.

N64 games - The only one it can run so far is Super Mario 64, which a superior version is already on the DS. N64 emulation is very complex, there are still issue on PC, and I doubt the PSP will be able to over come these many complexities.

    KICK @SS - Sure

Every point you tried to make to prove the PSP superiority were weak, and just showed how little you know about either system.

    GENTLEMEN (AND PUSSYIES)

    the numbers are out
psp just sold 350,000+ consoles the past two weeks retailers and sony just released the numbers,

the ds doesn't even come close to the psps even with the r4 or the evolution chip,

btw: psp will be able to play ds games in a year or so, patients always wins

What amazes me is how the fanboy arguments get started when so much is based on personal preference.
If you dig it, play it.
If you don't, familiarize youself with resale.
Don't bang on other people b/c of personal preference.
Superiority in gaming is ALL opinionated.
