Official Blu-ray site gets hacked

22 December 2007 18:34 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 38 comments

Official Blu-ray site gets hacked Last night, the official Blu-ray Disc Association website was hacked, and anyone trying to visit the site was redirected to the official HD DVD site.

Any internet user attempting to visit blu-raydisc.com were instead redirected to the HD DVD camp's lookandsoundofperfect.com web site. So far, no one has claimed responsibility for hacking the site and neither the BDA nor the HD DVD Promotions Group have made an official response.

All I can say is I hope that the hack was not started by a company in the HD DVD camp.

Heh, I wonder what fanboy did that. Intellectual debate has seemed to disperse to be replaced by fighting and stupid stuff like this...

See now with the Orwellian propertarian anti consumer DRM lock outs with Blu-Ray its not surprising that ppl don't want the format controlled by the MPAA to screw us over even more that sony's XCP rootkit, and are just voicing their opinion.

The MPAA/RIAA (SONY) PR would have you believe that ppl don't care or know about DRM but this is not the case. Sony please stop screwing us all over with you lockouts and limitations of media WE own!

That's kinda funny. I guess die-hard fanboys will stop at nothing. At least it was something funny.

Whats actually funny is that theres some idiot fanboy who has the time on his hands to do this.
Sure, I keep up on the format war, but I haven't chosen either side as of yet - because dual-players will emerge as the most viable format and I will have the best of both worlds.
These fanboys (on this site included) are incredibly confusing to me. I don't understand how someone can throw their unwavering support behind some corporations product when they don't give a rat's ass about you as long you buy their product and fatten their wallets. Do any of you fight this vigorously over the Pepsi VS Coke debate? Or Reebok VS Nike? Chev VS Ford? Do you praise the tax-man as well, cause he loves to take your money just as much as Sony or Toshiba.

Besides, in the end whichever one wins out, the fanboys of the losing format will have to switch sides, so what will you all say then?

Though the more realistic outcome will be that dual-format players will dominate.
The companies behind the development of these formats have thrown too much money into them to simply abandon them. Do HD-DVD fanboys really think that Sony will simply drop Blu-ray and start producing HD-DVD discs?
Or that Toshiba and the host of other HD-DVD producers will suddenly do the opposite?

And in the event of a dual-format generation, fanboys of both sides will need to get the other format to get all the exclusive movies.
Is anyone that stubborn that they would not buy a player for their hated format and miss out on movies?
I don't understand that kind of devotion to a corporation that cares so little for you.
Get real people. They are an entertainment medium and nothing more.

My brain thinks it could be a viral marketing campaign to show that BR has sold out to HDVD.......it could be as likely as HDVD paying off some hackers.

In any case it makes for interesting rumors.

Sometimes the way your mind works makes me wonder Zippy ;)

    Interesting thought though.

Whoever is responsible for this one, a lot can be said for a well trained hacker with a sense of humor!

What exactly would be the difference between your normal garden variety hacker, and a "cracka hacker"? Just out of curiousity. ;)

An everyday hacker does this kind of stuff for fun where as a cracka hacker is like a fanboy that has probably been trying to do this for months and is probably throwing a parade right now. The life of that cracka hacker depended on this.
