me sits back munching popcorn and waits for a certain person to come in and take up an entire 3 pages to tell us how this is a desperate measure for a failing format which is so much inferior to HD-DVD that it is laughable and how it's only popularity is due to lies and PS3 gamesters etc etc and how HD-DVD machines are so much sexier and better and easier to sleep with.

$27.95 for a movie when you can purchase the dvd for $15 max & throw it into your upscaling dvd player, most of these titles have been in the bargain bin a long time ago, i thought sony came out with all that PR dribble that DRM-Ray was as cheap as dvd's for the consumer, who in their right mind would purchase the same film for twice the cost with 10x the anti consumer, propertarian MPAA DRM lockouts?

Great to see the DRM-ray camp confident with DRM-ray sales that they need the extra discs to account for a winning month so the sale figures can be fixed as usual.

but its all good for the consumer i suppose (sarcasm) 2x formats = we have lower prices 1 format = MPAA monopoly and anti consumer, DRM-Ray!

Mabe he has heard about the WB news.

Wow, I've seen some lame claims in this 'debate' but that little list has to be one of the most laughable.

We're now just a few days away from the start of the end of all this.

Even Sony et al are winding down the rhetoric - and that ought to be indication enough that they know there is bad news coming for them.

Note the Fox senior exec who said after CES 2008 there would be one high def format.

    Here is the quote -

    Quote:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    14th Dec 2007:
“The table is probably set for high-def in 2008,” says Dunn. “I think by CES it will be pretty clear there will be one format.”
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    http://www.variety.com/VR1117977725.html

Note that even tho he is a Fox exec he does not go on to claim that single format would be Blu-ray.

That ought to be hint enough of some of the surprises we have in store during CES 2008 & in the 1st half of 2008 (some deals will not 'go live' until later in the year).

Tough luck Blu-ray/PS3 fans, it's HD DVD that is firmly coming through now.
The decisions have been made and the deals done and it's not looking good for Blu-ray
(no matter how much you want to whine about the retail movie disc sales situation during 2007).

I'm really looking forward to discussing the CES news when it breaks!

    I'm ready to talk Hug

It's disappointing, for sure, but not entirely unexpected.

Things had suddenly gone very cool in this last week on the possibility of Warner going HD DVD exclusive.

I wonder just how much dosh it took to buy Warner?

But we have yet to see how everything will work out so I'd not be rushing to too much judgement just yet.

We'll see but I still do not see Blu-ray becoming the next DVD.

    Between it's own drawbacks
(especially cost - if it really does turn out that they have no competitor - as they start to claw back their losses/costs),
downloading and regular DVD Blu-ray faces a vast mountain.

There's a very long way to go in this yet.

No matter what the PS3 fanboys might claim.

(s'funny, where is all that outrage about 'bought' studios now, huh? Hypocrites.
    LMAO)

Personally I'll keep buying HD DVD, DVD & downloading whatever else I can't get.

My (growing) HD DVD collection will keep me happy for a long while yet - especially if there's now to be a stack of idiots bailing and selling off their HD DVD stuff cheap.

I do know that I will not be buying over-priced, unfinished spec'd, DRM cripled Blu-ray.

I suspect I will be far from alone in not bothering with it either.
