New PSP model already in production?

22 July 2008 16:37 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 22 comments

New PSP model already in production? If leaked pictures from China prove to be accurate, then it appears a third model of the Sony PlayStation Portable is already in production and could hit retail stores before Christmas.

The "PSP-3000" would add a built-in microphone, updated buttons, some cosmetic changes and even the possibility of cell phone support. The microphone placed under the screen will make Skype and in-game chat much more accessible.

The new design would also be somewhat thinner than the PSP Slim and Lite and would include a new PSP logo ring on the back.

Sony has not commented on the pictures and for now this should be treated as a rumor but we will keep you updated if Sony confirms or denies the PSP-3000.

These pictures don't really prove anything and no comment from Sony. It's probably a rumor. I would hate using my PSP as a cell phone. Those things are so huge, it would be like putting my shoe to my ear.

i think its just a good fake..it wouldve been a much wiser choice to announce it if it were true on E3..being as they didnt im 99% positive this is fake

thats only a picture of the buttons and a logo...if that is al the change they made...this doesnt look official...but more like a mod....still does not prove anithing...a complete picture would help people more..

Only 2 pics? And it wouldn't surprise me if they were releasing this with a hardware fix for the pandora battery. The built in mic although likely crappy like the ds is still handy none the less no one wants to wear the headphones with the boom mic around when they're really just listening to music.

The 1st pic is resized about +400% a then he cropped that part.
The 2nd same as above but this one is retouched for sure, noise added and some reflection have been deleted.

What we see here is some PSP pics taken from someone that had the chance to take pictures of the new PSP from both sides, but not the chance to take a pic of the entire PSP....
ok psp asia nice commercial trick

If it comes with two analog sticks and R2 and L2 buttons I will buy it.I don't see this as anything to get excited over, unless they add a harddrive or something usefull to it.I'm 100% positive they have the ability to add the extra analog stick on it,and the rest of the top buttons like a regular PS1 or PS2 controller.I think this was the only thing I hated about the PSP besides the space issue as well.I think 4GB and 8GB duo memory sticks are alright, but for the cost of those memory sticks I would rather have 40GB or 80GB of storage space from a harddrive.

Awesome, I can go buy another shiney showpiece!

I'm not against the PSP, I have one, but I do feel that the gameplay on it is too focused on shooters (which suck on it) and RPGs (which I don't like). Sony needs a variety of games for the system like the PS2 had. No system this generation has such variety.

shoe sized cellphones were good enough for the people in the 1990's. =P

i am still happy with my PSP version 1.

no need to upgrade as long as i can run custom firmware on it. i can't give 2 schitts about another PSP. my UMD drive is never used anyway :-P

Personally i think its a good thing if this is true. As long as they make serious changes to the PSP and not some simple meaningless change that wont provide some kind of benefit. Im all for the evolution of a console/handheld if the changes are good changes. Makes for money well spent.

All we need is a second nub!

They can't do that because then all the games for it would be made for the 2nd analog stick. The 2nd analog stick along with Blu-Ray UMDs ;) would be the PSP2 if Sony goes ahead and makes one.

From the start, the PSP should of had the second nub in the first place. It was rather stupid not to include the second nub. If this rumored 3000 were to be released, it should then include the second nub. Think of it as a PS1-PS2 transition, just pull out the 1000 and 2000 for older games. Games that require the second nub should be used on the 3000 and those that do not just use the 1000 and 2000 which would render those two other models obsolete. It would be a great move from sony's stand point because it would eliminate future game releases and it would also not allow the user for the time being flash custom firmware.

They could just attach it to the same wiring as the d-pad, there is already a mod kit out there to do it yourself but it would be nice to see Sony take the idea and put it into production because as is shooters on the psp are frustrating as heck; if you've ever tried to you'd know what I mean.

I beat R6V on PSP, wasn't that hard but yea, it was annoying. I still feel that a 2nd nub would make it annoying to hold. I'd rather have a PS3 controller hookup via USB to the PSP.

I think the EnV might be bigger than a shoe. More like a brick.

Wow... I tell one of my friends to get rid of his "brick" and when he drops it he says that nothing will happen because its a "brick"

If that is true, PSP will beat the hell out of the IPhone.

If Sony does release a new PSP, it shouldn't have Playstation Portable in it as it would probably surpass the features of a PSP. The PSP Slim is going nowhere. Sad for the FAT owners. Every firmware updates will have less features for the FAT. Let's think of a new name - PSP? Playstation Phone? =P If this new awesome PSP is getting released the features would probably be really different and the XMB would probably be unbelievable. Ram space would be improved allot for the best updates. Is this just another crappy post made from a random person? :|

EDIT: This post is totally irrelevant from the above posts. I didn't read them.
