The Beatles will have their own music videogame

30 October 2008 22:38 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 13 comments

The Beatles will have their own music videogame Confirming reports published yesterday, The Beatles, MTV and Harmonix have jointly announced that they will be collaborating on a "brand new videogame featuring the music of the iconic Beatles" and will be out in time for the holidays 2009.

Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos added the game will be a "new, full-blown custom game title production built from the ground up". This won't be a special one band branded game like Aerosmith had with Guitar Hero however, it will be a whole new game.

Jeff Jones, CEO of Apple Corps, noted that the catalog would include songs from the entire run of The Beatles. It also appears the game will work with peripherals from Rock Band as well as Guitar Hero.

"We want to take players on an experiential journey through the band's history,"
he said. "A visual exploration of the Beatles' imagery is a big part of this project," Rigopulos said. "With apologies...there's very little that we're ready to say about the game itself."

MTV Networks president Van Toffler added, "We're going to provide the ultimate platform for new generations of fans to start their own love affair with the Beatles". Van Toffler also noted that the song of George Martin, Giles Martin, would be doing music production for the game.

"The thing that we're trying to keep to is for people to play the songs as though they're playing the originals. So we will be adhering to the original mixes my father and the Beatles did, and trying to preserve the sound quality as much as possible," said Martin.

Ten bucks says "The Beatles" is a trademark of a company owned by Viacom which neither surviving members of The Beatles has any say in but may, possibly, receive royalties to its use. I couldn't see this going well, and I'll eat my words if i think its worth anything when it comes out. I just don't get a kick out of playing plastic buttons to feel better about myself. I'll learn a real instrument and have sometime on my name other than "OmG i Beatz j0rdAn on exp!@#!@"

i don't think anyone who's playing the game "feels better about themselves" so i don't see your logic, oh i get it, you're one of those elitists who think you're better than someone else because zomg you PlaYZ some REal INStrumeNT1@#@.

Rofl, i myself play piano and if i wanted to play a real guitar i'd go ahead and take lessons, stop acting like a 12 year old and get over yourself.

i play rockband with my friends and girlfriend and we have a blast doing so, maybe you'd "feel better about yourself" if you spent less time hating on the ways people have fun.

Michael Jackson owned them for some time but hard times and pedophile issues caused him to sell.

I’d prefer to play a real instrument but that takes lots of time to master and play well. This has appeal because it is simple and all most anyone can pick it up and play. I can see why people are drawn to this. Someone, I forgot who?, is making a true guitar replica for these games instead of that plastic crap that is way too expensive for what you get, I might get one of those.

A little harsh patron even if you are correct in your analysis anubis66 is just stating their opinion right or wrong although they did get a little personal too. Take another shot of Patron and if you can afford it I’ll take one too. :D

    I play real guitar....but I love beatles music....anyways...
It sounds like they haven't developed what the game will be like. Does that mean they are going to rush it to make the holiday deadline? How good can a game be with only a couple of months to make it? Anybody know how long they've been working on it?

I'm not sure when they started but I know the concept has been around for some time know, at least 6 months or more, so my best guess is that they have been working on it more then a couple of months and as you have suggested wiseguy0 I'm sure it is scheduled for X-mas.

What will be next Rolling Stones?, Led Zepplin?, The Who?....

Jackson only ever owned 50%.. which he sold to $ony so he could pay off some parents... hehehehehe.

The Beatles (as a trade mark) still is a bit of a force.. Apple Co love litigation.. they won't miss out, trust me.

This might be a good game.. all depends who it is aimed at really. If it's another "Guitar Hero" type thing then it's for me anyway.. another cash in on a big name ploy to sell to the mindless and untalented.

My sideways brain could probably make a great music/adventure game based on the films and music.. lets wait and see what arrives.

To those who commented to me:

Most of the ppl i know that love guitar hero and rock band love it cuz they can get good easy and play there favorite "pop/rock" songs with easy. They get that pro feeling without being a real pro. That's all I'm saying. Say, like i play bass, it takes say a year for get pretty good all by yourself. And you have that for life if you desire. You can actually be cool/talented. The amount of time I've know ppl to waste away to this game they could play early Les Claypool style bass.

But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because you're so busy going from a to z, that there's 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

Hi anubis.. Long time no see..

I wasn't dissin you either. I grew up with The Beatles (so much mono vinyl you wouldn't believe)

If you think back on the films they made along with the music there is a really great base for something very different in terms of a game there. I just hope the game devs are my generation.. or at least the project controller is.. so something arrives which is as revolutionary as the band were.

Great possibilities, probably not going to be realised in these quick buck days.. but who knows. We may be in for a surprise.

Yey quick buck days, eh? Saw 5, GH-1-2-3, RB-1-2, GH Areosmith, Many other movies like Hostel and the new James Bond, etc.

Also, I have many vinyls myself. Mostly from a band called Hawkwind. Some Primus and others too.

P.S. New vinyl player came in today, w/o 45 adapter or even a needle and its cartridge...g.d.it.
