Steve Jobs takes leave of absence from Apple

Steve Jobs takes leave of absence from Apple For months Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been confronted with questions about his health brought on by obvious weight loss. Earlier this month he decided to clear the air and publically admit he was being treated for hormone problems.
In a statement earlier this month he said "As many of you know, I have been losing weight throughout 2008. The reason has been a mystery to me and my doctors. A few weeks ago, I decided that getting to the root cause of this and reversing it needed to become my #1 priority."

"Fortunately, after further testing, my doctors think they have found the cause—a hormone imbalance that has been “robbing” me of the proteins my body needs to be healthy. Sophisticated blood tests have confirmed this diagnosis."

Apparently though, his explanation wasn't enough to satisfy many people so he's decided it would be in Apple's best interest for him to temporarily give up his duties with Apple and concentrate on his treatment.

Apple realeased the text of an email Jobs sent the company's employees which stated in part "In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple’s day to day operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our board of directors fully supports this plan."

...Anyway...

I hope the guy gets better. I guess I'd take a 6 month leave too if I was CEO haha!
I've never owned Apple stuff, but the ones I've serviced are much faster than most Windows PCs. Hopefully I can afford it somday.

Back to the topic at hand; I always thought Steve Jobs was an idiot. Maybe things will get better without him.

Glad everyone here takes this so seriously...

Anyways, i think Jobs is a great man.
I don't like Apple products, hate mac's, and i almost shot myself when i bought an itouch. All that aside, Jobs has some ingenious ideas and runs quite an empire over there at Apple.
I give him by best wishes.

I don't like monopolies and big business crushing youth and fresh innovations (or stealing them), but I do love people. We make the world with our ideas, actions, leadership, etc... Steve Jobs is not evil. He is not the son of satan. He has lived (IMO) an honorable life. Sure, he is rich, he is powerful; but does that make him the target of such hatrid just for those things?

i really dont understand why there are so many apple fanboys. When has apple ever made a decision that has been pro consumer? steve jbs makes everything to fck the consumer so they they hav to go through bells and whistles. its all about the money to him. His reign of intelligent marketing, and flashy ridiculously expensive products will end eventually. i have to think people will either smarten up, or a real company will eventually realize there is a market for flash and start doing he same thing but without the limitations and exaggerated price

i care a much about steve jobs health as i do that natalie holloway chick. i would have killed her myself just to get her off the damn tv.

One fine day Hopium glorked:

I understand you. Maybe we can chat. I have a brother who's an idiot so I'm fluent in dumb-ass.

Bad news for Apple. He did turn the company around when he returned as CEO. For a while there I thought Apple was going to be non existent and now you have I-pod, I-phone, and I-tunes. Not products that I personally use but nobody can argue their popularity. I think all CEO's should be paid the same way as Jobs where his pay is based on the companies success. Must be flattering to him that the companies stock took a hit just from him announcing medical leave.
