Apple rejects South Park iPhone app

17 February 2009 14:49 by Rich "vurbal" Fiscus | 17 comments

Apple rejects South Park iPhone app Last October South Park Studios, creators of the Comedy Central show with the same name, submitted an iPhone app to Apple. According to a sneak preview at that time it would allow you to get wallpaper for your phone, read the studio's news feed, stream full episodes from their website, and even purchase them from the iTunes store. Now it seems Apple has decided not to approve the app.

An announcement on the South Park website gave fans the bad news, saying "After a couple of attempts to get the application approved, we are sad to say that our app has been rejected. According to Apple, the content was 'potentially offensive.'"

No doubt this is not the sort of news Apple would like to see right now. They're already defending themselves in a dispute with the Electronic Frontier Foundation over iPhone jailbreaking.

The EFF recently filed a request with the Library of Congress asking for jailbreaking to be exempt from the DMCA. They argue that it's essential for giving consumers an option to use whatever software they want on their phones, rather than being limited to whatever Apple allows.

Apple's rebuttal that the iTunes App Store provides all the choice necessary seems somewhat hollow in light of decisions like this one.

Apple being hyper regulatory isn't news. They've been this way since the 80s. If you dislike the selection available for the iPhone, I think the obvious answer is don't buy an iPhone.

Apple isn't the only cell phone maker...

I just want to say that I hate Apple. That's all. ... O ya, they suck. I just watched "Welcome to Macintosh" and they are trying to take credit for popularizing USB and CD-Roms. Lets face it, even if they were the first ones to use CD-Roms, did they really thing no one else would have thought of it? C'mon and get your heads out of your @ss Apple(Sh*t). And as far as I know, Intel was who came out with USB. Just because they started using intel inside a few years ago doesn't give them the right to claim USB. ... O ya, they suck and I hate their phone.

It's not a crime to count cards but casinos WILL ban you if you do. Accepting a card counter is still irresponsible on Apple's part due to the fact that it is cheating a legit business out of money.

As I understand it, it's not a crime to count cards... it IS a felony to use a device to count cards.

Well i wouldn´t say that... Atleast Ms doesnt say you have to buy their hardware (you cant get apple os with out apple computer) and mostlikely they would have done the same with computers (apple approved software only) if they ended up where ms is now... and btw Im not Ms fan (more of a linux user)

Also i havent heard ms saying what software users can run on cellphones that have ms os or what ever it is called.

The way apple has beeing acting lately i might even say that if apple had succeeded back then it would be like 1984.

U know, I like apple, i like the phone, but when they try so hard to do much crap like this, is what i dont like about apple. not accepting the south park app, about the counting card app, bunch of crap, specially jail breaking. Whatever APPLE, your tech is unique but your brain need to get laid.

Yeah, Apple is gonna piss off some people on this either way. I don't like their decision, but then I don't have kids either.

Good opportunity for all the Microsoft fanboys to jump in with their cheap shots though.

My 2 cents and I think everyone will agree.

Apple wants clones, Micro$oft wants users.

As I can think for myself I choose to put whatever I want on my iphone as its MINE! NOT APPLES. I brought it so I can do whatever I like with it.
If Apple dont like it then go have a cry in the corner and dont come out till your a big boy.

    Apple, grow up.
