Nintendo is already advising would-be buyers in Europe to buy the DSi early to avoid almost inevitable stock shortages during the holiday season.
The handheld goes on sale in the region on April 3rd and UK general manager David Yarnton has added that it will be difficult to keep enough supply to satisfy demand, especially during the hectic holiday shopping season.
"I always advise people to buy early," noted Yarnton. "One of the things that people don’t seem to understand is that factories are producing constantly; they don’t peak and trough.
"So we’re producing product all the time, but then everyone wants it all at the one end of the year. It’s just so hard to try and keep up."
Retail chains have already reported strong demand for the DSi, which will sell for GBP 149.

Just a marketing fiddle to keep the price of the units high,as they did with the wii fit boards.

No downtime,no breakdowns,no planned maintenance ?.Must be a world class factory!".

I think what Yarnton meant was a factory operating Monday - Friday, 9-5, produces X amount of product. Not X+1, but certainly X-1 is possible.

Yes, but the "X" that Nintendo states can be produced is never the "X" that can really be produced.

Yes, it looks like nintendo has found a marketing ploy and will milk this for years to come. I estimate that by the next version of the Wii they will only produce 10 units, but take preorders months in advance.

Yeah, i don't buy into the whole shortages thing, sounds like another feeble method at restricting supply thus artificially increasing demand. I'd have thought they would have learnt their lesson after the farce of Wii production
