Following Pirate Bay verdict, Pirate Party gets 3000 new members in 7 hours

18 April 2009 19:14 by James "Dela" Delahunty | 8 comments

Following Pirate Bay verdict, Pirate Party gets 3000 new members in 7 hours Following Friday's guilty verdict announced by a Stockholm court for the four founders of The Pirate Bay, the country's Pirate Party (Piratpartiet) gained 3,000 new members in just 7 hours. As a result, it is now larger in numbers than 3 of the 7 political parties that make up the Swedish parliament.

"The ruling means that our political work must now be stepped up. We want to ensure that the Pirate Bay activities — to link people and information — is clearly lawful. And we want to do it for all people in Sweden, Europe and the world," said Rick Falk Vinge. "We want it to be open for ordinary people to disseminate and receive information without fear of imprisonment or astronomical damages."

He commented that the party needs its members, saying that unlike any other political party in the country, it is a true grass-roots organization that aims to affect real change to the countries laws regarding copyright, patents and so on.

Your ignorance is mind numbing. Instead of doing the right thing and skipping a news item that was unimportant to you, you went for the easy post on your way to addict. The whole issue surrounding The Pirate Bay has a global impact. While it may seem unimportant to you, there are many here that value and appreciate any information that arises regarding the situation. Thank you Dela for keeping us current with whats going on.

Oh good grief that is on a par with the MPAA's twisting of how online piracy affects the film industry...is that what TPB is all about ? linking people with information ? silly me - I thought it was about pirating copyrighted material and spreading it out free of charge to as wide an audience as possible !

The Pirate Party ? sounds really noble doesn't it - where do they stand on environmental issues ? Will they stop their downloads and switch off their PCs and servers for 1 hour a day to limit greenhouse gas emissions ?

the Global Warming is nothing but a scam... if the Pirate Party wants to be taken seriously they must stay away from the corporate scams...

Just because somebody is for something does not mean they are against everything else.

The same underlying greed fueling the TPB trial is causing the global green house effect.
Who do you think are the major contributors of green house gasses?
Not the greedy Coal Producers who are spending hundreds of millions of dollars publishing and airing false commercials claiming clean coal so the population will be fooled into believing it’s ok to continue burning coal to produce electricity..
Not the oil industry that by limiting the production of ‘Green’ automobiles are insuring the use of more of their polluting product.

"In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, brave hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds however, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot."

Global warming a corporate scam? That comment certainly proves the old adage... “It is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
Maybe you should do your homework.
The real corporate scam is to make people too lazy to do any real research believe that global warming is a scam so the greedy corporate abusers can continue to perpetuate their scam on the world.

Well put Byron .. nice to see our information campaign is spreading.

There was a lot of fully legal content linked to on TPB .. and the site itself breaks no laws whatsoever. Plenty of countries in the world don't agree with or enforce USA copytheft laws in any shape or form.. just because something is a law in one place doesn't make it universal.

Tyranny by bullying is the sign of a country that has grown out of it's boots.. and barefoot in a world of little thorns like us is a dangerous place.. they might end up feeling a prick .. hahahahahaha

long live TPB .. keeping public content public regardless of the whiners.

Now for the appeals.. where it will be fount that accessory to making available" is way too wide.. it includes the content makers and the shop retailers and the item purchasers.. in fact the whole shooting match from the mpaa down are involved in that...

Lets see some cinema owners busted next time a cammer is caught in their cinema... because if they hadn't assisted by "making available" then the cammer would have nothing to film... the cinema owner is profiting from the "making available" whereas the cammer is probably working at their own expense just because they want to... With this outcome from round one it opens a can of worms for anybody clever and crafty enough to start with the interpretations of facts and logical conclusions.. something the prosecution couldn't do in a million years.. and something they obviously had to bribe judge and jury to get across.. There was no case to answer here.. nothing illegal in Sweden had been done.. did they categorically prove that a few films and files were shared as individuals by the site owners?.. and where is the profit motive that is needed AS INDIVIDUALS for the piracy/theft to stand?. hahahahahaha

Time for people to wake up and smell the coffee.. today these four.. tomorrow me, you, and everybody else who has ever bought a film or cd and no longer has the shop receipt to prove beyond doubt you paid for it and didn't get it from piracy.. and also get rid of your pc.. because you might have copied it or shared it.. and they can spoof up "evidence" (sorry.. I laugh every time I hear that word in p2p matters these days) against you then bribe or coerce a legal action to give the outcome they want...

I thought damages had to be actually shown to be compensation for proven damage and loss.. these a$$hats can't show ONE lost sale or ONE proven case of loss.. ouch I hurt my unemployed foot falling on a nik in the pavement.. I want 9 million in damages because I couldn't go to the shop to buy tobacco for a couple of days as a result.. yeah right XD
