'District 9' Blu-ray will include God of War III demo

2 November 2009 17:02 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 13 comments

'District 9' Blu-ray will include God of War III demo The Sony Pictures blockbuster District 9 was given a release date of December 29th this week but more interestingly was the revelation that the Blu-ray version will include a demo of the upcoming God of War III video game on the same disc.

The God of War series is a Sony-exclusive and has been a blockbuster franchise so far, with the first two games selling almost 9 million units combined.

Sony says that gamers can unlock an "exclusive making-of featurette of the game" after they complete the demo included with the movie.

“The combination of District 9 and the game demo of God of War III is an unprecedented home entertainment offering,”
notes Lexine Wong, senior executive VP at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. “We are thrilled to give consumers not only an incredible high-definition presentation of District 9 and the wealth of bonus material about the movie, but also a taste of what is destined to be the biggest videogame of 2010. This pairing of the movie and game demo is just another example of what is possible with the Blu-ray format.”

Peter Dille, senior VP of marketing and PlayStation Network at Sony, also added, via VB: “Blu-ray functionality has long been a differentiator that separates the PS3 from other home entertainment systems. Through this collaboration with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, we're able to create a unique experience only available on the PS3 system that blends two of the most popular entertainment options available, watching District 9 and playing God of War III off the same disc.”

If anything this was one of the best movies made in years. What was so "crap" about it? Because there weren't any "big" Hollywood stars playing? Most of those stars are just in movies because they look good, not because they are brilliant actors. Sharlto Copley gave one of the best performances I've seen a long time, especially considering it's one of his first movies acting.

Or was it because of a low budget and "unpopular" director. Neill Blomkamp showed that you don't need a big budget to not only make one of the best sci-fi/action movies this year, but one of the best movies in a long time.

Honestly, if you're going to call a movie crap, at least backup your statements. Some people just don't know a good movie when they see one.

What do District 9 and God of War have in common? Why did they pick this movie to have the God of War 3 demo? Just to show off? Neet and I want the demo but this just seems a little weird to put it with this particular movie.

Crap movie? It wasn't the best I've ever seen but it wasn't bad either. Definitely not crap.

djeazyg, the movie is Sony's biggest Blu-ray release of the year, and the game is expected to be a blockbuster. It makes perfect sense, imo.

I thought the point of bluray is the ability to use lower compression for larger file sizes and better image & sound. I'm guessing this demo is at least 1GB, maybe 4GB or more (if it was compact, they would just put it on the PSN)...disc space that could have been used to improve quality. I was going to buy this movie on bluray, but I think I am going to wait for the second release without all the compression.

What kind of nonsense conjecture is that? Most of the higher-quality transfer BD movies only take up ~30-40GB, which still leaves 5-15GB of available space on a dual-layer disc. Since most PS3 demos aren't larger than 1.2-2.5GB, there's hardly a sacrifice there.

I more wonder if they'll strip the demo from copies distributed to rental companies.

I guess this is a good way for people who already want the movie to get the demo. I'll be buying the God of War Collection that comes out November 17th and already has the God of War III demo included.

I have heard this is a good movie and I don't doubt that, but I have to say I fell asleep trying to watch this one.

    I think it's a great idea having a demo on a Blu-ray, there's like 50gb of data storage available, so wouldn't be a problem.

Is District 9 actually worth buying/renting?, was thinking of downloading a 720p HD version of it from moviepro.net or if it's really good getting it on a Blu-ray disc.

FINALLY!!! Someone who agrees with me. This was the worst movie I have ever seen! No transitions, no good dialogue, no story, ending was horrible, terrible camera work for what was supposed to be "humanized" (meaning that it was filmed by a "real" person in the movie, using a "real" camera), and overall left thousands of questions and zero answers.

The ONLY reason I would consider buying this is for the GoW3 demo. After I finish playing the demo, I'd either sell it, or toss it. But I doubt that this demo is worth wasting my money on such a pathetic excuse for a film.
