Nintendo denies Wii HD rumors

9 November 2009 20:24 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 8 comments

Nintendo denies Wii HD rumors According to an interview with GTTV, Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime has vehemently denied the rumors that the company is planning an HD version of the popular Wii for 2010.

Top videogame industry analyst Michael Pachter made waves recently when he reported that he expects an HD version of the Wii next year.

"Michael [Pachter] continues to be the only one who believes this is going to happen,"
says Fils-Aime. "I don’t know how forcefully we can say that there is no Wii HD."

That should put the rumors to rest, for now.

No, sony never claimed that the PS3 slim would not be HD. Nintendo consideres the Wii a toy...that means no bluray playing support or HD games. It is for small children...the kind who watch Pokemon and think it is well drawn.

Wow KillerBug, epic fail there. I think H08 was referring to sony saying that the PS3 slim didn't exist when really it did...

    sarcasm

Anyway, if anything is an epic fail, it's Nintendo's business strategy. It's amusing when a company admits when they don't know what to do next, as they did recently.

I don't see any "epic fail" in tendos product development and marketing strategy.

What is wrong in saying "we don't know what is coming next" when they haven't done any research and decided what to do. .. or do people just want more of the same old crap over and over again? (pspgo anybody??)

Yes, we give you 100% free, no strings attached email! Just send us your address and we will send you as much free email as you could ever wish for

Everything is wrong with that. The console is only 3 years old.

"Wii has stalled," Iwata adds. "We were unable to continually release strong software, and let the nice mood cool. We were unable to show a new game to become 'the next thing.' In the game market, once you’ve lost the momentum, it takes time to recover."

"With the price drop, sales returned to a certain level, but they just did not reach the level of last year around this time. We decided that it would be difficult to sell enough to recover from the poor performance of the first half of the year."
How much clearer do they have to get? Their research got them so far. Their market is saturated, and their ideas are dried up. How good is a console that is dying after 3 years if there is no plan to save it? What they are saying is that all they can do is give us the same crap over and over again.

All the preliminary reports had stated the WiiHD was to be released in 2011 so to deny a story that says 2010 isn't being wrong.
