Apple wins Samsung Galaxy tablet block in EU

Apple wins Samsung Galaxy tablet block in EU Temporary ban affects most of European Union.
A German court has issued a temporary injunction banning Samsung Electronics from selling its Galaxy Tablet in the European Union. The court sided with Apple Inc., which has accused Samsung of slavishly cloning the iPhone and iPad products in its Android-packing smartphones and flagship tablet.

Products already distributed prior to the court order on August 9 may still be sold, with retailers saying they have received no legal instruction to remove stock. Samsung does not expect the injunction to have an immediate impact on EU sales.

The decision hit Samsung a week after the company was forced to delay its Australian launch of the Galaxy tablet following another lawsuit from Apple alleging patent infringement.

"It's no coincidence that Samsung's latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad, from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging," said Apple's London-based spokesman Adam Howorth. "This kind of blatant copying is wrong, and we need to protect Apple's intellectual property when companies steal our ideas."

Samsung denies Apple's accusations, and has said it will defend its position rigorously. The company will launch a slightly modified version of the Galaxy tablet in Australia next month, and will file an objection to the German decision immediately.

Apple, why don't you do us a favour and shut up!

Apple are just not happy with all the money there getting greedy.

And my folks will still be asking me why I hate Apple so much...

I can understand the galaxy phone but the galaxy tab as well is just BS, because it looks nothing like the ipad at all. Seems that Apple just always has the edge when it comes to court cases just because of their name.

I think there might be a solution to this. Try the case in a third world country and selecting a judge by a short straw. Than sequester the judge, just like a jury!

I bet Apple would lose all the patent suits.

I mean... Aside from the fact that they are both tablets, how are they so similar? I mean, not much you can do to differentiate a bunch of rectangular plastic slabs; but I still don't think "iPad" when looking at it.

So yeah, if it's a rectangle and if it uses a touch interface (even with a completely different, more open, and customizable OS), probably especially if it happens to have a camera (some dangerous thinking there) then Apple is suing you...

Well, Samsung obviously didn't, but, if they did clone the iPad, at least they did it quite fast. It took almost ten years to Crapple to clone the concept itself and then claim they had discovered the wheel:

The iPad is user-friendly, fast, smooth and whatever but original.

Apples and oranges... But oranges are banned because they're round and they grow on trees.

I agree.

My 10 year old Casio PDA was smaller, had most of these features including add on auto orienting camera and internet connection. So what else is new? Of course it was a whole lot cheaper.

Only company that will never be sued by apple is Intel. Intel can cut off their b***s and hand them on a silver plate! No CPU - no Apple !
