Apple forces SourceForge to remove PlayFair

9 April 2004 12:06 by Petteri "dRD" Pyyny | 12 comments

Apple forces SourceForge to remove PlayFair Apple has sent a DMCA camplaint to SourceForge.net, a very popular open source development site, asking the site to remove immediately the PlayFair software from their site.

PlayFair, as we reported couple of days ago, uses a so-called "analog hole" in order to make DRM-free copies of purchased iTunes tracks.

Apple complained to SourceForge that the software was in violation of DMCA's section 1201(a)(2) that makes it illegal to distribute tools that allow circumventing copy protection mechanism.

well i say : fuck all you apple-haters. and what the hell is wrong with the ipod? It's the best selling mp3-player in the world! And that bullshit that it's overpriced... So what, then don't buy it. ever seen prices of dell sometimes?

Maybe it´s a bit pricy considering HD prices of today. But still, it´s a stylish mp3-player. If I was going to purchase a player with a hard-drive, the Ipod would be pretty high on my list.

To all u mac & ipod haters get a life I've got both, and would rather have them than a PC and MP3 Players. ie if u had £30,000 would u by a micra or a Bmw...

    id rather have a pc

    1. pc WAY more compatible
    2. like 4x as many programs
    3. macs are 2x as much for about the same specs
    4. macs are very expencive to upgrade, pcs are cheap
    5. ipod- $300 mp3 player- $100 (mp3cd player a better idea sense its backwards compatible and 700mb per a $.50 cd a much cheaper per mb cost)
    6- ipod breaks- $300- mp3 cd player $40!

If ur happy with your with what u've got then respect to you, but people should not slag thing of because they cant afford something, i use my G4 for making music and i'm very happy with it.i started of with a PC things just never seem to go smooth, crashes, conflick and slowness. so G3 and now G4 best choice i've made, yes more expensive but worth every penny

Personally i don't mind the ipod. What i dislike is the unusual DRM link with Apple, it is rather unlike the image that Apple usually portrays. If i remember rightly two founders started business life by making the blue box phone tone generators from a bedroom for phone phreakers to use!

This says it all right here...if you pay for it you should be able to do whatever you want. Like if I buy a dvd for instance, I should be able to burn, kick, or throw that thing at anyone or anything I want...cause I paid for it.

Your right, Apple stuff is over priced, but the fact remains that they are trying to monopolize the industry.

Here is a great article, LOL!
