Yeah i found it after studyin up on it, but almost deleted the bookmark.dat but was cautious & read more into it & found out that you only had to do that with prev.version & find out which one i had. But at that time i had no idea what app.data folder was,Its only happened once (thank god!) but as you said 'a few times' I cant say it 'gets easy every time-probably frustratin'
Thanks for noticin that anyway.

@Bryan_G,
Tabs do not use up so much ram only new windows. It is the same in IE. If you have multiple windows open, it quickly consumes RAM!!!
I had 15 tabs open in Firefox and it still used under 25 MB of RAM. The thing is that once memory is used by Firefox, it does not seem to free it up when it does not need it any more. I think this is more a Windows XP problem though.
Also, it seems like IE also uses up 25 MB of RAM on Windows XP. I then opened 3 new windows (4 total) and it used up 45 MB of RAM. This is the same as with Firefox, so they are about equal in that way. However, tabs use maybe an extra 600kb per tab, so you have the advantage in this case with Firefox on memory. Also, tabs are much easier to work with.
Oh, I don't know if this makes a difference, but I run no script and adblock plus. I always have Java disabled unless I need it.
EDIT, to free up RAM, use the "Clear Private Data" function and it should go back to about the 25 MB amount.

I still say Avant browser by AvantForce is the best. There are so many features to Avant. Yea it is based on the IE layout, but it has worked for me for years. I also like Firefox, but to me it is focused to much on protection & not features & that can slow down browsing in my experience.

I just updated and changed my browser to Firefox and its great. No over the top crap that comes with any of the other browsers out there this one is nice and simple.

Reinstalled it today (after taking it out yesterday) then installed the latest release of "Tab Mix Plus" and everything works great.
I love the fact I can move the back - forward - refresh - stop and Home button to the top bar, couldn't do that on 1.5.

Also, the memory problem is somewhat fixed. I opened up several windows and tabs to get up to 128 megs of memory, then closed all but one window and it went down to 54 megs, still a little high. With 1 open window and 1 tab should be more like 38 megs, but this is still much better.

Opera isn't the memory-hog that Firefox is and is the fastest browser. Downside: some websites still don't like Opera. The upshot is that most of those sites want to drop malware on your computer so it's sometimes a good thing.
P.S. Yes, Opera is coming for the PS3.
Firefox 2.0 has two significant improvements over older versions: I have lots of bookmarks and it no longer takes 30 seconds+ to access them! Also, it doesn't seem to occasionally "forget" a site you bookmark anymore and use the clear private data feature. YAY! Downside: Still a bit of a memory hog. Also, you need to use Firetune. Even the pipelining tweaks don't seem to help as it is slower than past versions out of the box. Been using it since Monday pre-release and several installations.
IE7 - same s--t different version number. Oh, another vuln. found->http://secunia.com/advisories/22542/
It's been, what, 4 days since its release? Eh, why should I complain...hacked machines mean more business for me. %-)
Edit: I was wrong about the Firefox 2.0 bookmarks - it's still pretty slow sometimes, but it doesn't seem as bad as FF 1.5.0.x.

-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs. Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. If you have burn problems with these then you have to upate your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim.

I downloaded Firefox 2 and I am very happy with new features (like spell check and the anti-phishing tool). There is also an improvement with live bookmarks/feeds. However, there are some things I prefer about the old Firefox. I often "power" through my tabs esp. when downloading many files or opening many pages in tabs and then closing them. So I don't like the new way of closing tabs. I liked the "x" at the the right side of the screen how it used to be, not on each tab like it is now...if that makes any sense. I think it will be a bit slower doing it this way. No big deal anyway (IE7 seems to have the same thing). I do like the new glass-like buttons. After being an IE user for years I changed to Firefox a few months ago and have been really happy. I don't think I'll switch back to IE7, however I do like the tab-previews in IE7 where you can view thumbs of all your tabbed pages. The inbuilt search with Firefox 2 is good especially because there are many more search providers to choose from than with IE7. Tabs seem to be just as fast. I must make a comment about IE7 too while I am here. I think that IE7 is a good solid browser with some good improvements (still not as good as Firefox 2 or Opera) but I hate the tabs in IE7. The tabs seem to be much slower than in Firefox (1 and 2) and the tabs are so big.

I have Opera. Because I do web design I have all the browsers to make sure the work I do looks good in all of them. That is what brought me to use Firefox. I was an IE fan for years, only used FF to check my work. Then when IE came out with 7 I hated it, but didn't want to uninstall it because I was sure that would cause problems, so I started trying other browsers and I like FF best.

Because, unfortunately, IE came with Windows and IE7 is the "newest" version, therefore it MUST be better... :/

Is it me but does Firefox take longer than IE to load... I like the features and all but i may even try avant or Opera maybe later.

OK so I have used Firefox and IE 7 for the past one month and i feel although i like most of the features on Firefox I prefer IE 6 not even 7 because the layout and all is actually smaller and does not take up that much memory so i have nothing to really worry about in load times. I just update the feature of IE Spell Check and it works as i want it too.

I hate IE7 its the biggest piece of crap ive ever seen, it doesnt even work properly for me either. Whenever i click in the address bar to type a URL the screen starts flicking and going crazy, not even the MS hotfix solved it even though it was the whole reason for the hotfix.
FF for me thanks anyday.

Ok well I have reverted back to Firefox. Not because of the vast majority here it was because mainly I got used to Firefox in the month i ran it and when i went back it was just not for me anymore.
I have one major issue with Firefox and that is that it does not play streaming video properly and that means not at all. e.g. Youtube
Any Ideas??
