AfterDawn launches new home page

AfterDawn launches new home page As many of our users probably have already noticed, we launched a fully revamped version of our main home page today. The new front page gives a better idea of the constant flow of various content updates that happen on our site almost 24 hours a day, mixing together the software updates, news articles and game downloads.
Obviously, some people simply prefer to see our news updates on the front page and get annoyed by the fact that they're now mixed together with the other sitewide updates. To accommodate this, we made the small "checkboxes" available at the top of the page to choose what to show and what not to show on the page.

As with most of the recent site improvements, the change of the home page layout was based on the suggestions we've received through our innovation contest. Again, if you have ideas on how to improve our site further, don't hesitate to participate in our innovation contest.

I just got on this morning (10:31) and saw drastic changes on the home page, Its awsome but I do think the news should still be up top.

As stated, everything is ordered by their "arrival time", thus if the news article is the latest update on the site, news article is at the top. However, as also stated in the article, you can choose to show only our news articles on the front page by using the checkboxes provided. The settings are stored in a cookie and wont require registration or logging in.

I like what you've done there, a lot of the content is now more viewable. IMO, the last one was sexier..

Sorry for the back to back post, but I noticed that some news articles are highlighted with a yellow color, and some are white. What does this color change denote? Or is it just cosmetic in nature?

Remember how in the previous home page some of the news where "stickied" to stay at the top? Those news articles are the ones with yellow background color, meaning "highlighted" news items.

I allways say dont fix what aint brokin, Im not good with changes, But I got to say I like the new homepage, I love how you can check what you want to look at.

Pretty interesting home page, I like the changes although they will take some getting use to. One thing I would remove is the "Hot terms" box in the lower right corner of the homepage. I find it out of place and annoying. If its kept could dRD (or whoever manages the main page I guess) please make it so none of the searches are bolded? I find the bolded words distracting and a bit annoying. Just my two cents. Peace, Pop Smith

I like this one better. It's easier to see what's happening, and you can choose what to see.

Great work guys :D

i like the old frontpage because of how the news were set up.

I also am a lover of the old version of how the page looked. But in saying that i remember when aD made the first inital changes it took me awhile to get the hang of it and they way it looks. I love the fact that the check boxes are there so we can choose how we want it too look :) Well done I say :D

Dont burn me but, i don't really like it. I loved how the news was right in your face, but now it just looks a little strange.

I haven't paid that much attention to the layout in the past. What's different? I looks basically the same to me.

I was just wondering with the check boxes that let you choose news, software and game downloads.. My news box is grayed out. Is anyone else like that. I thought we can choose between the three unless aD has made news compulsory. Any insight would be appreciated.

It is dimmed only if you have unselected everything else -- you need to have at least one category selected, because otherwise it would look.. Dunno... Weird?

Thanxs for the explanation :) Makes sense now. I'll leave it as it is. Thanxs again :)
