Apple TV launch delayed until next month

Apple Computer Inc. has delayed the launch of the Apple TV device until next month, the company has revealed. Apple TV (formerly known as iTV) is a set-top box that intends to bring content from your computer straight to your television with the help of iTunes software and a home network. "Wrapping up Apple TV is taking a few weeks longer than we projected, and we now expect to begin shipments mid-March," spokeswoman Lynn Fox said.

In order for the market for online video sales to see optimal growth, analysts agree that consumers need to be given solutions to easily view content they buy from the Internet on a proper Television screen. One service that achieves this goal is Microsoft's Xbox Live Video Marketplace, which sells movie downloads that can be viewed on a TV using the Xbox 360 console.

Apple hopes to offer an attractive solution to customers while also keeping Apple TV simple. So far, devices intending to bridge the PC - CE gap have been considered to either fall short in features or have been too complicated.

You know, I actually like the sound of this product. Sure, there are tons of others that do the same thing, but what I like is that alongside the new piece of tech is downloadable content to back it up. I feel the prices for media, (ie, movies, tv shows, etc) off iTunes are pretty decent, therefore its nice to be able to watch them on TV instead of on the iPod or computer. Then again, does this product just sound cool because my content downloaded off iTunes is DRM protected and I can't burn it on a DVD? I can't say. [ + quote]

it would be great so long as its not for video content downloaded through only itunes. its not a new thing though products for transfering video from pc to tv wirelesly have been around for ages and im sure this will cost a hell of lot more being as it has the aple logo slapped on the side. LOL, Media Center anyone. I think its funny how people will blast Microsoft for being unoriginal because they take steps to sex-up their gui for vista, an inevitable progression of any software franchise, and then attribute it to biting off Apple. But then when there's a clear case of the contrary no one seems to notice. Media Center PCs have had this capability for some time now and Apple throws an I infront of it and all of a sudden its something to get excited about. Its pretty stupid, and don't get me started on iphone. Anyone who'd pay 500-600 for a device that does the same thing as two other devices that a majority of people already own is an idiot. There is quite a big difference between actually investing in an entire media center PC and buying a device like this. Apple is by far not the only company who is producing a device made to stream video and other content directly from a PC running a normal operating system. [ + quote]

Its a big difference from having a Media Center PC then having a device thats like the size of a router project your movies and on to your TV wirelessly instead of using your PC or ipod. I think its a great idea and for those people who hate having a million wires to hide this is a great product that will give some more value to ipod video users. Think about it like this what would you rather carry around your PC or Laptop or this device and your ipod. [ + quote]

I'm a PC user but the computer geek and longing for a computer that just works inside says "Buy A Mac". I love technology period, and sure looking forward to receiving my Apple TV! I'm all for fair compitition in all business and services regardless. I have to admit that I'm hooked on iTunes and the TV Show downloads so needless to say I have a large media library that I would love to watch on my TV on my couch with the remote and my favorite snacks and drink.
