Flat-panel HDTV prices continue to drop in North America

According to Pacific Media Associates (PMA), the average price of a 30 inch+ HDTV-capable set in North America fell by another 3% in January this year. The 32" WXGA high-definition (HD) LCD TV segment was the best portion according to Rosemary Abowd, PMA vice president. These units accounted for 23% of all the units sold in January with an average street price of US$900.

37" WXGA LCD TVs dropped 33% in January, caused by increased sales through online retailers at agressive discounts. LCD models sold beat Plasma displays by about 2 to 1, LCD's largest lead yet by PMA's figures. The top 20 best selling models in January 2007 were LCD sets, compared to just 6 of the 20 last January.

The best-selling model for January was the 50" Panasonic TH-50PX600U.

I see alot of people are doing there homework when it come to buying LCD vs Plasma.burn in from plasma really got people worried.Give me the top LCD's on the market vs any Plasma & bet they will look better.Thats the 3'S Sony,Sam sung & Sharp. [ + quote]

Burn-in and lifetime expectency is no longer an issue with current plasmas. Plasmas now have better gasses used and have many screensaver features like pixel orbiters, etc.... For Picture quality and viewing angle plasmas is generally accepted to be the top for all tvs (at least with the best models - pioneer and panasonic). [ + quote]

and a rather expensive plasma at that! I have a Panasonic TH-42PX60U, great set and not quite as baller as the 600U but it does the job handsomely. I shopped LCDs and Plasmas and found that the plasmas fit my needs and viewing setup better then an LCD could. these prices still have a long way to go, remember when rear projection TVs were selling for $7k?! I also got to liking them side by side,a dual monitor/TV setup would rock I can double screen the PC watch a movie on one and surf/PC stuff on the other or watch a DVD on the Xbox/ps2. sigh...drool I know what I like,I just have no monies for it >< [ + quote]
