Hitachi sues LG over plasma panels

Written by James Delahunty @ 28 Apr 2007 8:45 User comments (10)

Hitachi sues LG over plasma panels Hitachi subsidiary, Hitachi Plasma Patent Licensing (HPPL), has filed a lawsuit against LG Electronics and one of its subsidiaries for apparent use of Hitachi's plasma display panel technology. HPPL has been negotiating licensing terms with LG Electronics and LG Electronics USA but talks have proved fruitless, leaving HPPL to file a lawsuit to resolve the conflict.
Hitachi claims that technology used in LG's plasma display panels infringe as many as 7 of its patents. The company is seeking monetary damages and an injunction against LG which would block it from importing the panels into the United States. At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January, Hitachi showed off a sub-$2,500 50-inch 1080p HDTV plasma and LG followed with a 50-inch plasma a month later.

To me,that's a pretty lame reason to sue someone.Aren't LG and Hitachi affiliated somehow together in the Xbox 360 Drives?I find it dumb that people even sue people because it has some features that are the same.7 patents?what 7 things can possibly be patented by one company in a tv?it seems Hitachi is over reacting and wants more money. That's what i think...........

well, as a 'silver surfer',brought up in the days when spelling was important, I can still accept that for textmessaging on mobile (cell) phones is useful, and b, instead of be,u replacing you, etc can save time space and money. I can't see the advantage of replacing luck with look though, unless scott2k7 was refering to us not having anything to 'look' at after 2 years tenure of an LG monitor screen.
