Metallica sues Napster

Written by Petteri Pyyny @ 13 Apr 2000 18:18

World's most popular heavy metal band, Metallica, sued Napster and three American universities today, claiming them for massive copyright violations against band's material.
For Napster, these court cases are beginning to be every-day-thing, but its first time when universities get sued. It's very propable that this is a impact of German courts decision yesterday that ruled AOL to pay huge fines for allowing people to spread illegal musioc through its service.

"Napster has built a business based on large-scale piracy," the band's lawsuit reads. "Facilitating that are hypocritical universities and colleges who could easily block this insidious and ongoing thievery scheme."
