eD2K Razorback servers seized

Written by James Delahunty @ 22 Feb 2006 4:12 User comments (108)

Any big users of the eDonkey2000 network will already have noticed that huge servers such as Razorback2 seem to have disappeared. The Federal Belgian Police raided and seized the servers yesterday. For those not familiar with how an ed2k server works, it does not host any files, either copyrighted or other, but it does index their location on the network. The eDonkey2000 network consists of many servers located around the world that work in a similar way.
In addition to the servers being seized, Swiss authorities arrested the site's operator at his residence in Switzerland and searched his home. The push behind the legal action came from the Motion Picture Association (MPA). "This is a major victory in our fight to cut off the supply of illegal materials being circulated on the Internet via peer-to-peer networks," said Motion Picture Association (MPA) Chairman and CEO Dan Glickman. "By shaving the illegal traffic of copyrighted works facilitated by Razorback2, we are depleting other illegal networks of their ability to supply Internet pirates with copyrighted works which is a positive step in our international effort to fight piracy."

The Press Release issued is full of spin once again. The MPA claims the actions were aimed at cutting off a major supply and facilitator of illegal files to several popular illegal file swapping networks. Firstly, how are file sharing networks illegal? Copyright infringement taking place on the network may be illegal depending on where you live, but the networks themselves remain legal. Also, I don't see how Razorback2 was there to supply other networks of illegal files, remember Razorback2 hosted no files, it was an eD2K server.

The MPA also claimed that the motive for running the server was financial because it collected donations and made money from advertisements on its website (which were sometimes pornographic). The MPA knows that many of the top file sharing software companies make a profit from their software through advertising, this has nothing to do with making money from piracy. With the same argument you could sue Google, or perhaps manufacturers of blank media because piracy probably makes up a large percentage of their use.

The MPA also decided to go back to another aspect of P2P that has been screamed by entertainment companies in the past; some people shared child pornography or terrorism videos (bomb making videos, they claim). Firstly, child pornography is something 99% of P2P users would prefer is not shared on their favorite networks. That being said, people also would have preferred if DVDs and VHS tapes weren't used in the trade of child pornography, or that newsgroups aren't used for the purpose. However, with any technology, there will always be abuse.

According to anti-child porn groups, the biggest child pornography problems on the net come from sources like Russian & Japanese sites. The MPA doesn't care about this though because it doesn't need to discredit Russian sites (or others) to justify a raid on a P2P server. As for terrorism videos and bomb making instructions, what exactly qualifies as this type of material? Would the movie "Fight Club" qualify for example? If you wanted to blow up something, this movie might provide you with small details that can help and provide you with the motivation, but its not a terrorism video because its "art" apparently.

I don't think the availability of bomb making instructions on a P2P network will spur a massive number of terrorist killers around the world, and rest assured that existing terrorist groups know already how to make bombs and don't need to find instructional videos. You can be also sure that most sharers of that kind of material share it because it interests them to know how its done, not because they want to be the next group mentioned on CNN. Again, let's remember that the Razorback servers hosted no child pornography or terrorist training videos, these were shared by users of the eD2K P2P network.

"Razorback2 was not just an enormous index for Internet users engaged in illegal file swapping, it was a menace to society," said Executive Vice President and Worldwide Anti-Piracy Director John G. Malcolm. "I applaud the Swiss and Belgian authorities for their actions which are helping thwart Internet piracy around the world." Since the Razorback servers didn't host any files, the files were instead traded by users; the enormous amount of people who used the Razorback servers all the time will simply move on to other available eD2K servers, which means the content is still on the network and the closure of the Razorback servers will just be a hiccup.

It will be interesting to see how this develops in the near future.

Totally ridiculous. It would seems that Mr. Glickman is just trying to rationalize with the other movie and music industry leaders to justify in stopping these servers. Well, I am sure there will be more servers that will be up and running, and with the MPAA's blantant and retarded tactic in trying to get people to stop downloading movies (such as the ads on movies and in theaters), no wonder they are trying so hard to get the world involved. I mean hell...just seeing those ads made me increase what I was already downloading. So I guess scare tactics and guilty messages don't really affect people. When the article stated about the use of blank media, that was the nail that hit the head. If you really wanted to stop people from doing this type of thing, then hit the source of the material. Tell them to stop making dvd burners, computers, blank media, software, hell...I am sure they can do all that and still be home for dinner with their families by the end of the day. :/ See, downloaders and uploaders are born everyday, and there are more of us than there are of them. People aren't going to stop whether they shut them down or not. But oh hell, keep on fighting there guys. What a bunch a losers.

"Razorback2 was not just an enormous index for Internet users engaged in illegal file swapping, it was a menace to society," I think we all know who the real menace to society is. What a joke. Soon, computer games stores will be closed won because someone might be able to sneak a pirate cd into the shop without someone noticing. Note that that's only beneficial to the shop, not that person. But yeah, it'll happen. If Glickman has his way, people will be illegal soon.

522.2.2006 07:57

Another nail in the coffin of the edonkey/clones network. Time to torrent.

622.2.2006 08:23

What's up with Belgium! First its the cartoons of the prophet Mohammed that causes dozens of deaths, now its a pointless effort to thwart internet piracy! LOOLLL Close down one server, 10 or 100 more will open in its sted. LOLLL Glickman is just trying to capitalize on the media coverage on what seems to a pirate as a laughable effort on his part, and a commendable one by his fellow peers. Glickman give me a break.

722.2.2006 10:08

Bit Torrent is merely alterior to emule, it isn't a good replacement. It may be several times faster than emule, but there's far less content. I'd be minorly peeved by this if Razorback was illegal, but since it's 100% legal, I'm very peeved. Just think, no matter which country you live in, most governments can come and raid your house without authority and take your PCs away. Scary stuff.

It's about time.... Edonkey is retarded!!! I get about 2 kb per second on my downloads. Now everyone take all your rare files on edonkey and move it to limewire pro for god's sake.

well maybe thats because 1. you havent set the configuaration up properly 2.your server 3.your filewall and as for the comment move it to limewire, you gotta be kidding thats just such a lame app..........

1222.2.2006 22:57

Bitcomet is the best. I've grown attached to this craptastic p2p.

1323.2.2006 00:38

Limewire's good, but not infallable. The number of files is lower, and while speeds are usually far higher than any other application, the number of fake/corrupt files is higher than emule, and number of downloads are limited. It's also a very basic program, and automatically seems to disable itself if you don't have the latest version. There simply is no perfect download application out there, the arious offerings are just bad in different ways.

1423.2.2006 00:44

from MPA: "The operators of this eDonkey site chose not to exercise control over files being traded by users which including those containing child pornography, bomb-making instructions and terrorist training videos." I guess no ISP "exercises control over files being traded by users"... (well, at least in the free world, outside US) so are they shutting down ISPs too?... how about the "child pornography, bomb-making instructions and terrorist training videos" going thru the postal service?... are they shutting down the postal service too?... or should the postal service "exercise control over files being traded by users" ?... shame on Switzerland and Belgium for allowing US to enforce it´s fascist, corporation-protecting laws in their territory...

andmerr, I am positive I have all the configurations right, because I have a highId. Still even on emule, I am always and I mean ALWAYS on QUEUE. QUEUE....QUEUE.... QUEUE.. and when I do get connected to others, they usually share about 2 to 5 kbs for me which is retarded!!!!!

1623.2.2006 02:20

What a great "victory" for anti-piracy teams. ...and even Razorback2 is gone, data flows like nothing has happened (eDonkey is still number one P2P software). =)

1723.2.2006 02:30

And the razorbacks are about 3 out of, oh 100 servers? Shallow victory. Very shallow indeed. Only when ByteDevils and the donkeyserer networks are shut down will the network ever be constricted. And yes, queued up to 20,000 places is normal with edonkey, you just have to be patient. Usually most files arrive within a week.

1823.2.2006 07:05

the other "razorbacks" are fake yeah...plz...everyone will just switch to a new server

1923.2.2006 07:22

Im not sure why these people even bother. Its not like its going to stop.

Piracy will always be around. Always. I think the trick is to make software, games, and movies more "reachable" for the average consumer. Photoshop can be close to $1000. For a the average Joe at home who wants to learn how to use it, $1000 isn't gonna cut it. Affordable pricing is the only solution. If the price is right, it wouldn't be worth the effort or risk. $20 for a DVD. Way overpriced. Corporate Greed is causing the thriving Filesharing. I'm willing to bet thatif Mr. Glickman's house was raided, he wouldn't be 100 percent innocent himself (or the kids) Things will just go more underground. Thats all. For the real fileSharing GURU's....technology has opened its arms wide enough for many years to come. You will only stop the newbies, or less knowledgeable. Its best to look at the reasons why so many citizens illegally fileshare and fix the source of the problem. Most cannot afford to buy it. I know i cannot afford. I would prefer an illegal version over a FREE ADWARE version anyday.

2223.2.2006 10:08

Likewise. I've been buying legitimate media for many years, it's about time I claimed some of it back.

2323.2.2006 11:20

Domie quote "yeah, right, really smart advice, it's so much safer and the raids on suprnova and other torrent sites in 2004-2005 didn't really happen did they ?" It was not advice it was a statement. wow this isn't surprising edonkey mostly contains viruses dead links and bad uploads and they charge you a monthly fee on most of the edonkey networks so even if they cannot track you by ip address the servers that you registered on contain that information your username password ip address and any other personal information so this really is a blow to anyone who has used edonkey and have downloaded any games or movies so have fun because the next thing will be search warrents for illegal downloads once they obtain the information they need from those servers

2924.2.2006 02:28

Two words. Peer Guardian.

3024.2.2006 03:34

So they shut down 1 server on the internet... Woohoo!!!

3124.2.2006 03:41

"edonkey mostly contains viruses dead links and bad uploads and they charge you a monthly fee on most of the edonkey networks so even if they cannot track you by ip address the servers that you registered on contain that information your username password ip address and any other personal information" Tripe of the highest order, the number of corrupt files is actually lower than most, and it's free, always was and always has been.

3224.2.2006 04:12

I like edonkey, its never been fast for me but it has alot of files and soem ahrd to find stuff you cant even buy, torrents might be fast but they only have so much. *sigh* Nice to see the cooprate machine grindeing away at freedomes across the world....

3324.2.2006 05:56

Totally agree about ed2k/emule, not at all fast but has an incredible selection, indeed including items not found for sale.

3424.2.2006 06:51

IRC is the best way to download. 200kb/s and up + no uploading. only problem its hard to find older stuff

3524.2.2006 07:20

I'm on usenext at the moment which is a bit mediocre for contenty, but oustanding for speed, 500-600K/s on downloads, very little short of my maximum.

3624.2.2006 09:40

ed2k is a fab network, as someone said, one can even get rare stuff you cannot (or dunno where to) buy.

3724.2.2006 12:03

Its kind of funny. They shut it down. Will that affect the p2p at all? Maybe for a few days but it will come back. p2p will never be destroyed. Face it, its here to stay. my 2 cents P.S. LOLOLLL they had to throw in the word terrorist to get people's attention :D Who downloads terrorist stuff anyways? Dont they know you can go to the community college and take bomb making 101.

3824.2.2006 13:43

Most terorism stuff i've spotted (not that i go looking for it, i don't believe in blowing innocent people up) is HTTP, nothing more.P2P is relatively harmless, music and video, the occasional computer virus, no issues of national security, and certainly no menaces to society.

3924.2.2006 15:09

sammorris ahhh but you forget that not following the will of coperations to arse rape customers is agaist national security 0_o

Well it's comforting to know that Dubai is securing our ports. We'll never see Janet Jackson's twins again cause the FCC is on the case. Howard's at Sirius. Dubya is spending almost half a trillion dollars in Iraq not to mention the human cost. The poor Muslims got a boo boo cause of a silly cartoon. Waaaa. Waaaa. And most important. One lousy server pool was taken out of the giant loop. Yep. All is right with the world.

4125.2.2006 00:31

I don't claim to be a muslim, but that was a little harsh. That aside though, I think we all agree that this is no victory for the Media authorities at all. I wonder how many people from the MPAA and the likes read these sort of articles here?

4225.2.2006 02:05

I'm ashamed as a Belgian that my country is not brighter than this. In fact I wish we could sew those making illegal arrests claiming they are doing it all for the good, while continuing ripping off society themselves.

4325.2.2006 02:08

Well there's nothing to stop you trying, but good luck against the most powerful lawyers in the world.

4425.2.2006 03:03

Not to get into a long debate. But a 'little harsh' might be something like taunting a missionary before you actually chop their head off while filming it. Or a 'little harsh' could be "In Nigeria’s northern and predominantly Muslim city of Maiduguri, angry Muslims burned 30 churches and killed 18 people, mostly Christians. Similar protests occurred on Monday and Tuesday in the northern city of Bauchi, where 25 people were killed when Muslim mobs attacked Christians there." http://www.christianpost.com/article/africa/510/section/nigeria.death.toll.rises.to.96.in.cartoon-sparked.violence/1.htm I claim to be Jewish. Common cartoons in Muslim countries are: Jews depicted as rats and spiders. An old man representing the 20th century pointing to a dwarf-like monster with a Jewish star on his chest and declaring that Jews were the disease of the century. Jews eating and sucking the blood of gentile children —a classic reiteration of the Medieval blood libel. Israelis and Jews are depicted as being responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks Israelis and Jews are depicted as Nazis. http://www.renewamerica.us/columns/jweinstein/060224 We're not running around like animals killing everything in sight.

4525.2.2006 09:38

"As he begins his journey through his narrative, Trifkovic accurately points out that it was Muhammad who promoted Allah to the status of supremacy. Allah, whose name comes from Al-ilah, was originally the Quraysh tribe's moon god. This explains why, in a dose of irony, flags of Muslim nations sport the crescent moon. In a flash of truth, the author also confronts the clue-less politically correct crowd who spin an evil web of disinformation when they tell us that Islam is a religion of peace. This is a lie, for the Qu'ran in Sura 2:216 tells Muslims that war is good. The Qu'ran says in Sura 9:5 to slay those who will not believe in Islam and in Sura 5:33 to execute those who resist Islam. Then he covers the tragic social aspect of the Muslim treatment of women, where in Sura 4:34, a man is given permission to "punish his wife," (including physical abuse) if she is "disobedient." Well, there you have it folks, the truth about Islam. Jews and are Arabs cousins, Israel discovered this when trying to develop a biological weapon to defend themselves against an Arab invasion. Ironic. On another note, Israel has committed quite a few atrocities, and Ariel Sharon is quite an evil and murderous man. However, Jews don't go out chanting death to all manners of life. On yet another note, Jews aren't what these angry people demonstrate, you should take things with a grain of salt. However, these nations that support marches of angry Muslim protesters, burning churches, accusing Jews of all manners of fallaciousness, killing people, chanting death and curses against all those who aren't muslim, well in my book, this is "Preemtion". What do I mean by that, well its simple, the US should invade all those countries before they become a real problem. Or if you prefer non-violence, a boycott of those countries. If they use a cartoon to try and murder us as an excuse, than they are a sorry lot indeed. Servers will always stay up.

4625.2.2006 10:30

Invade all muslim countries? Be my guest mate, and take a swastika with you. I think we should probably end this debate now, this is best left to the other subjects forum.

4725.2.2006 17:35

5026.2.2006 01:20

Because?

5126.2.2006 09:53

Preemption is a very valid idea stated by experts to shift tyranous governments into democratic ones. So Sammoris, don't go high and mighty on me by mentionning something as ridiculous as a swastica. I simply restated what was already said.

5226.2.2006 09:56

"the US should invade all those countries before they become a real problem" I don't think that was necessarily what was already being said. I wasn't being overly serious but choosing to invade countries just because "they're a bit dodgy" is an absurd idea, we might as well be back to the days of the british empire.

5326.2.2006 10:29

Perhaps, its your choice if you disagree with those ideas, however these ideas are being considered in Iran and North Korea. On another note, I am not sure why they bother to even use their assets to seize servers.

5426.2.2006 13:13

Lets keep p2p alive you beautiful dorks out there. The Motion Picture Association (or MPA)OR Film Actors Gild (or FAG ")just playin;)... should quite whining. Movies on p2p's aren’t worth downloading when you can see go see them on a big screen with some nice Dolby digital sound, I'm sure most people would agree so Hollywood cant be losing much of there profit to p2p. In my own opinion I may be wrong I may be right and its definitely not politically correct I believe hollywoods sales are down because there have more and more artsy and gay themed movies lately a lot more(Look at the Oscar line up) I KNOW the majority of the American audience doesn’t care see that. There ratings may seem good but that’s because ""Those people"" show up in flocks to see them. Hollywoods missing out on much bigger market "the average American" they need more comedy Action and epic stories. And please no more skinny female dominate super spies saving the world Its so mindlessly fake they may be hot but they should just shut up and take there close off and let a man do the asskicking I mean get real(again not politically correct just my own opinion) Anyway back on subject p2p's are great for music and software why pay two thousand dollars on a software program when you can get it fo free I mean come on it’s the software and music companies that should be complaining. That is all

5526.2.2006 13:26

and they are. Unless you have a £10,000 surround system I'd rather go and see a film at the cinema, if I get round to it. Music and software is more a problem because you have to play it at home, and it IS OVERPRICED so people download it instead.

Just curious id Edonkey is one of Shareaza's networks? I've noticed a lot more crappy atempts at virus uploads, and you sure can't find what you used to. Here is a novel idea. Why doesn't RIAA realize that supply and demand is what's affecting the market as it does any open market. People will argue the supply has increased, (P2P) but the fact is nobody is making decent music. This is cyclical in nature. Nobody really bought music until they had a reason to. In the 60s, RIAA flourished. Not so in the 70's. Punk Rock surged in the 80s, that demand is gone, yet rap/hiphop promoting gangsters and murder is the only real thing that sells. If it's lasted this long, well over 20 years now, and nothing new has replaced it, how exactly does the very small % of P2P users actually hurt their business? We all know music will no longer be sold as a tangible item, they should side with te P2Ps because that's where we are headed, nobody wants to go to the store and buy CDs anymore. You don't have tell this to Tower Records, why must we tell RIAA? MPII applies just the same. What was the last good movie you saw? Something along the lines of "good movies." How far can you take Star Wars? Will we ever see a blockbuster movie like E.T. again? Put some decent stuff out there and demand usually follows. It aint't that freakin hard to figure this out. You know?

5727.2.2006 02:27

Shareaza is one of the edonkey networks. Emule & ed2k will search shareaza but not the other way round, it's the most inferior p2p app i've used, besides the original kazaa.

5827.2.2006 02:36

Nihilator pretty much sicne they cant do anythign aobut fixing the quality of current music and movies they want us to constantly buy it on upto date protected media basicly meaning you will go to jail if you put your record collectiong or tape collection on CD your self 0_o sammorris Kazaa was good more or less as good and faster than edonkey however a year after K lite came out they got soemthign up thier rear and destroied the greatness of kazaa and today its worthless ad/spyware shell of it self.

5927.2.2006 02:44

sammorris Tickets 5-14$ a pop Gas/Cab 5-60 round trip Drinks/Snacks 5-20 I would rather download it frist and see if its worth blowing 30 on 0-o

6027.2.2006 03:23

Yeah true, there have been some pretty anticlimactic films of late.

6127.2.2006 07:57

If you want music Get LimeWire If you want software and games get emule. (You'll want both, They use different networks) Limewire is almost flawless when it comes to music and its fast. With emule you can get just about any software program or game you want a little slower but it'll get ya there Both are free and they work great!, and spyware and viruses aren’t a problem.

6227.2.2006 08:09

I agree with ChiefBrdy and hot_ice to a degree, and they have every right to say what they did. I feel that no group involved in all these conflicts is free of guilt or blame. Being too PC is what's creating so many problems in today's societies. So the Muslim religion got made fun of? So what? Every religion is made fun of, that's how they learn through a positive way that they might be at fault. What right does that give them to go out and kill innocent people and curse all other religions? We live in 2006, people change, and they need to execpt the fact that the world is not the same as it was in the original writtings of the Qu'ran. I'm not stating that they are the only group that has problems, the totally-Christian overtones of America's gov't right now is causing a lot of economic problems as well. G. SOBush and his "hidden puppeteers" are causing many unneeded effects with all these new policies that blantantly violate our Constitution. And let's not forget what this article is really about. Companies in general have, for as long as an establishment can be traced back to, are all about profits. Laying waste to a persons feelings or pocket book are but one of the rules carved in stone on their "hidden" agendas. As long as they can create a profit, it doesn't matter what has to be compremised to get to that goal. This is different in the case of someone doing something harmless, but doing it out of the norm, so they become a target of these companies in subterfuge to destroy what they represent. The reason that this server had to be seized and terminated indefinitely was that the ones in charge found this as a threat to their profits and integrity, and, due to monetary backing and "moral" support, they accused and descriminated against the other group, not so different to what all these other groups are doing. So, long live P2P, and freedom of speech and expression, because if it looses, we loose, and we loose the fight to these groups who want to supress us and keep us down.

Rikoshay I am always in awe of pll that have working brains LOL Go you! fugdunny Limewire is good for music? How about rare/hard to find anime and game music? if tis there I will try it :3 if its jsut mostly newish generic pop crap I give up *L*

6427.2.2006 08:39

emule Einstein and I can only tell the best I could find. I've looked for better p2p's your just gonna have to settle for what’s out there. Emules slower (that’s why I use Limwire for music but emule also has a wider selection of music

6527.2.2006 08:53

Thanks for the compliment ZIppyDSM! I rarely get told things like that. I also agree with your argument on how all originality is being down-played for profit (if that was your intention). Let's face it, TV (and movies) have been the same since conception. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING on either media has been changed. White people are still the majority on TV, black people are mis-represented, and Latino people are non-existent with the exception of "COPS" and "Mind of Mencia". Movies just recompile what's been done in the past and make it what the creators see it as. It's not as bad as TV, but most everything being showed has already been done in one way or another. Resident Evil, followed up by the crap-plot of DOOM is a prime example. That's kind of why I really enjoy Quentin Tarantino's work so much. In most cases, when women in media hit a certain age, they go from sex singles to nanny's and mothers. If you see his movie "Jackie Brown", you see how, even at 44 or so, she is still a very sexy person and very independent. To answer your question, Limewire (I like to use Frostwire) is pretty much good for game music like DDR, but to find those really hard-to-find songs, I'd go for Soulseek. Anime is not really good to get on Limewire, due to lack of structure and relevency, so I'd stick to BitTorrent for that. Go to boxtorrents.com for anime, but they don't always have many classic animes on there. You should go to http://www.torrenttyphoon.com and make a search for the anime you're looking for there, due to it being a meta-search enging type thing which will filter through all the most popular sites.

"yawn" People, we will see these types of reports and articles from the MPAA TILL WE DIE! With that said, who cares!! P2P will live forever!! Deal with it.

6727.2.2006 10:44

Rikoshay originality is being down-played for profit Is the understatement of the century, they have to replace fiction in comic and video game movies because tis hard for them to understand..or hard for the public to understand...I cant tell WTF thier thinking anymore at least the Remade for TV anime comanpies have an exsuse for screwing over the shows thier remakeing them for younger viewers than the show was ment for (One peice being best exsample of this a PG13 anime in normal US standards reduseced to a G kidde cartoon...its why if a domestic anime company wants to claim Copy right if they dont release it in a ture uncut sub/dub format I automaticly consender that aniem to be free game Disney and 4kids are the main 2 offenders hell disney wont even release all of Digimon on kiddie cut dvds) most of the time and trying to use the show to sell shit...but back to moives it the fiction wasnt good enough for thousands of fans it wouldn't be popular to begin with....they have also managed to take this into the Video game market and desamate gamepaly and level design to crap out generic bland games that barely make them money(prefect dark 360,Quake 4,Doom3)...both industries have gotten to complacent in just trying to get by great games that you don't forget are becoming rarer and rarer, becuse of the way Hollywood dose its remakes its the rare comic movie thats enjoyable even if you don't know the story and characters...Judge dread,Batman 1,Hellboy (I dont know much about these comics but I did enjoy the movies and Hellboy was pure fun) these compared to Xmen, batman 3,4,F4 sufer from being shallow and just not well done the only good thign about Xmen is wolverine I think hes done nicely it goes down hill after that...sooo down hill.....the DOOM moive is jsut the satus qoue we can remake anythign and make money off it....altho I would love to see them suffer from more WTF Comic/Game to Moive moives...Cat woman bombed as it shoudl for being so badly done...I cant understand why the blade and Xmen movies are liked they are so shallow and shotty compared to the comics thier made off of uuhggggg.... damn I think I crashed my spell checker *L* One was used for most of that *L* Sorry for the rambleings,I am on dailup now so its becoem that much more fun to find the openings endings and songs that are onthe anime I watch ,its rather annoying the CP owenrs can agress to relase the shit they let them do for the shows on one fing CD >> as for game music I wonder what can find obscure Kanomi music sets like for caslvina and some rock type music ,one song I have been trying to find for years is a slow electric gitar industrialish ttune its supposed to be the end of life force or something I have a down mix of it. Sorry for rambleing *L* my mind is scattered and its been a high caffine day so my thoughts are bounceing all over the palce. fugdunny I tried Emule acouple times in the past acouple years Edonkey 2000 or whatever tis called now was better its pretty much the last remaining worth while of the old P2P programs, has emule improved any? Mabye I should try it I might be on dailup but it can give me an idea of how it has improved.

6827.2.2006 11:12

Im not sure that emule would be worth it for dial-up It would probably painfully slow the newer versions have gotten better though.

6927.2.2006 11:28

I am pretty much in purgatory untill the power/cable/phone co-op desides how to get bordband to the outlaying aeras aroudn the city, the city has DSL thier trying out WI FI and Digi cable/net over phone probly go Digi cable/Net thru the phone lines since that would better serve them.

7027.2.2006 13:04

I used to find overnet worked really well, and it's now substituted for emule, which I find is a bit slower, but a far better client.

7128.2.2006 20:04

i'm bettin the only real reason foreign countries help the mpa and the RIAA out is money. they are getting something out of the trade off otherwise they wouldn't care about what the retarded part of the usa are doin

7228.2.2006 21:38

Since we are on the topic of P2P's, what's the best all rounder P2P server out there? Good quality downloads, virus or spyware free, fast download, reliability...etc?

731.3.2006 02:49

Hot Ice Good quality downloads, virus or spyware free, fast download, reliability .....from my Exp anyhtign like that is usealy a private BT tracker or a Private newsgroup thos are mostly 1000% virus free Mmm as far as P2P programs go (like napster,Kazzaa,Edonkey and such) Edonkey like it or not has the files its speed annoying and the chance of a virus is mabye 3-5 out of 10,all the other P2p programs have been nutered in some way and are slowly dieing if not dead already P2P programs are pretty much a dieing breed. Bit Torrents Well this is where p2p is at for most of us it has most of the files we are looking for and its speed is genrealy great sure a virus might pop up once and awhile reliability is better than Ed but its not perfect, like I said perfection for a multi user public thing is...well..an impossbilty? *L* I have talked to alot of pll about the private groups and trackers and such you might have to pay buy thier as close to perfection as you can get,I havent gone that way yet sicne most of what I am looking for can be found or bought cheaply.and since I on dailup theres no point >< *L*

741.3.2006 13:02

Sorry ddp. Got carried away.

751.3.2006 13:14

That's ok esrever, we all do sometimes, but your position isn't helped by a profanity in your signiature. I don't want to go all high and mighty on you, but that doesn't make a good first impression. :-)

784.3.2006 01:48

Interesting change. I somewhat agree though. Not trying to sound pompous of course. :D Now let's try and stop the jihad! Heh.

794.3.2006 10:48

Each time some figure calls for Jihad, you seemingly have all the support of Islam backing them up. Talk about religion of peace. Its unconstitutional to seize a server last time I checked. But in this day and age, just about everyone is breaking the rules in the constitution; Bush, lawsuits aimed at censorship, etc..

804.3.2006 14:09

The entirity of the MPAA, RIAA, FAST and that lot is unconstitutional.

814.3.2006 15:36

hot_ice Bear with me here,Jihad had its place (bascily a call to arms to stop invaders or other large scale thigns for thos under the same tribe/gov that needed to be done 200-5000 years ago sicne they hevaily mix reloign and gov its what you could bascily call) Now adays its like cross burnings in the 30's-50s a bunch of ignorat folk get togather and try and pull lame shit just becuse they can... sorry if I am dumbing this down to much...its like the Arabs are the slowest evolveiong culture on the planet they seem to be in time of trails state a cross between englands middle ages and the USA's Socail rev of the 30's (wemon voters OMG wemon have rights?) AND 60-70s (blacks and other NON normal non power groups have rights? whats this!?!?). I look at it as growing pains every culture has them they just seem to be clining to not wanting them 0-o *L* AS for the "religion of peace" the P-C mentality in the USA is clinging to that a bit to much I think.....every religion wants to be peacefull but depending on the times and what they can get away with..anythign can happen and that goes for ANY religion. I wonder if tis like the rasceism with the jews and blacks in the US sicne the jews have quitely melting in the pot with the rest of us the black bitch about everyhtign every other day and dont seem to be melting well rest of us ....its a the more you tlak about it the mroe you find it but less you tlak about it and get used to trating everyoen like humans the more it goes away thing....dont mind me htis is a WTF brain burp for me and I will add this this is not in anyway a smudge or disrespect of anyone or anyhting merely a thought that the sqeeky wheel dose not always get the grease sorry if I had gone off topic when I heard them tlaking aobut it on PBS I nearly feel out of my chair altho they were cover alot of black topics in it talking about Bill Cosbyes "distaste" of Pop culture and moderen black cultrue as a whole and lack of respect for anyhting ect,ect they talked about ti alil and it kinda amde since to me.... Arab muslims seem not to evolve in some regions in the world. Unless they are modern, which in most cases isn't really the case. The rest of your text I read through it and the only thing I can say is FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET SPELLCHECK!!!

835.3.2006 01:23

hot_ice *L* nuts anythign more than 4 wrods I should grind thru a spellchecker >< going to test goggles soon its saposed to be easy,I wish someone would make a thundrbird spellchecker for Firefox..well there is one but ti dosent work ><

I read all that, I'm quite proud of myself. I kind of agree with what you're saying too, especially about Political correctness. I think the US has taken letigiousness far too far. Oh and here's your post as I interpreted it. Forgive me if i misunderstood: "Bear with me here, Jihad had its place (basically a call to arms to stop invaders or other large scale things for those under the same tribe/government - the same as was needed 2000-5000 years ago) Nowadays its like cross burnings in the 30's-50s, a bunch of ignorant folk get together and try and pull lame s**t just becuse they can... Sorry if I am dumbing this down too much...its like the Arabs are the slowest evolving culture on the planet - they seem to be in the time of trails state - a cross between england's middle ages and the USA's Social revolution of the 30's (women voters - Oh my god! Women have rights?) and 60-70s (blacks and other NON normal non power groups have rights? whats this!?!?). I look at it as growing pains - every culture has them, they just (that bit was unintelligible) As for the "religion of peace" the P-C mentality in the USA is clinging to that a bit to much I think.....every religion wants to be peaceful but depending on the times and what they can get away with, anything can happen and that goes for ANY religion as well. I wonder if it's like the racism with the jews and blacks in the US, since the jews have been quietly melting in the pot with the rest of us the blacks bitch about everything every other day and dont seem to be melting well. For the rest of us ....its a "the more you talk about it the more you find it but the less you talk about it and get used to treating everyone like humans the more it goes away" thing.... Don't mind me this is a WTF brain burp for me and I will add this: This is not in anyway a smudge or disrespect of anyone or anything, merely a thought that the sqeeky wheel dose not always get the grease. Sorry if I had gone off topic - when I heard them talking about it on PBS I nearly fell out of my chair, although they were covering alot of black topics in it, talking about Bill Cosby's "distaste" of Pop culture and modern black culture as a whole and lack of respect for anything, and so on and so forth. They talked about it all and it kind of made sense to me.... While I am making my grave I want to finish with the shcool teacher that got kicked out for comparing bush to hitler.....lets all think about this...both are using smoke and mirrors to rally the poll. Bush wants power to put us into corpate purgatory, Hitler wanted power to rule the world...I dont think Bush could rule his way out of a paper sack (I should know I have trouble with them sometimes) but anyway are they the same? No. Are there correlations? Yes. The republican faithful that wanted the teacher out said all the kids heard were "Bush is like hitler" Thats the 10 sec pop AD they're puting out to quash anyone who sees a sad and scary coraltion between the two.....now that my grave is made, complain, rant, PM all you want. Anyway. Those statements about child porn/bob making/etc. are just a screame of a wounded beast. Construction of the nuclear bomb and/or other explosives can be found on the web (using google for example) with detiled explanation and materials required on the sience related sites. They (you know who i'm talking about) just can't do anything. About music/movies shared: I can download music I like from my favorite dj's site for free!!! And I do download them. But do I buy his CDs. Those who have riped cd->mp3 will understand me. Quality suczzz. Same goes to movies. P2P networks will never die! PS: This is not about religin. It's just about the mONEY. That's it.

906.3.2006 10:15

Bob making eh? On a more serious note, you're right, it's just a scare story to make people look bad. Anybody with a functioning mind doesn't give a damn about it. Nice try losers.

You're agry with me because? Because I pointed out you don't spellcheck posts, neither do I. So what the fuss?

936.3.2006 11:41

sammorris dead on *L* I wish I had a working mind *L* as for this part ""(that bit was unintelligible) "" what I mean is they basically refuse to grow up as a culture or as a people the resent riots over the cartoon are fact of this..you don't trash the city like drunk collage kids when you lose a game you do what everyone else dose boyycott, sad thing is the boyycott is working and they are still roiting alil....acting like kids who didnt get a cookie they are *sigh*. The Google spellchecker doesnt work quite right but I am trying to use it. Thanks for the summarization maybe if I can be less quick to post I can proof things alil more. b0ba we did veer off topic alil now and then but eh as long as it's not to bad I learn more things by going off topic *L* LOL sammorris LOL

946.3.2006 12:01

LOL indeed, and from what I can see the Google spellchecker still needs some improvement.

:D

956.3.2006 12:20

@boba Listen bob making may be widely available information on the internet, however, I strongly advise anyone that is thinking of experimenting with alleged bob plans to consider the fact that the chemical equations behind them are FAULTY and can get you and anybody else around you killed. Notice I said bob. I won't say the word correctly, self-censorship.

966.3.2006 12:21

@zippy even google can't recognize the language you speak lloloololloll I'm just messing with you.

976.3.2006 12:36

hot_ice My friends are convinced I have created a new language 0-o Kidding I am not LOL. I surprised them that I could write fan lyrics to some anime songs and its actually not brain hurting *L*,I finally finished one I been working on for 2 or so years had a couple HD crashes witch always seem to lose everything I am working on so many notes and stories lost that I might not be able to do again because my mind is one track and dose not have reverse.... I think its a good day when I can take direct English translation and hammer out lyrics to a whole 4 min song and only have 8 errors of grammar or spelling. altho it shows I am cable of making sense I just need to slow down and triple check grammar and spelling.

986.3.2006 12:50

Actually that one wasn't bad. Only 9 errors I count.

996.3.2006 13:33

Actually Zippy, you are referring to interpersonal coding. It doesn't matter if your syntax or orthograph is faulty, Chomskian linguistics suggests that we are all "language geniuses" in our way to formulate sentences at will without any prior knowledge. Personally, I don't understand, I don't think I need to refer to cryptology, just simply try and decipher what in the seven wonders of the world you are talking about. Peace out yo!

1006.3.2006 14:34

hot_ice Mmm decipher what I am talking about in general or to the last post? Fan lyrics are akin to Fan subs but they take it one more step,a direct translated song can have odd sentences like "We as humans are yet to be able to share words." and other things that are just odd...this one was hard for me to fit with the theme of the song and japanese vocals.... I hamered out "Our hearts to young to share our pent up words and feelings of each other." matching theme of song is around 80% matching vocals is around 80% ,mabye closer to 75% in any case its annoying me still even tho I am 95% complete with the lyrics but it might stay at that since I suck with words.I might create a thread in the chit chat area over this I need more input over the the lyrics from non biased sources *L* Fan lyrics try and hammer out good lyrics in English while keeping to the spirit of the song,a few US companies used to do this (Animeigo , Viz) professinally but its fallen out of favor over the years , Direct to TV anime has not help this (Direct to TV Anime focus on TV edited dubing look at Yu gi ho or One piece, altho in One Piece's case 4Kids took a PG13 anime and remade it into a G cartoon show). VIz now sho pro has fallen to the level of good 4kids dubing which is annoying as hell...since they released ranma 1/2 with full translation and dubbing of songs....the song I made fan lyrics to is its 9th ending and the US broadcast of naruto is minus its intros and outros in favor of cheap replacements ,but at least Naruto will get a full US release with uncut dubbed/subbed DVDs 4Kids wastes to much money with mindless edits and joining 3-10 eps together to release subs much less Uncut.. Bah I need to start learning how to make correct paragraphs.... Oh well playign with song lyrics can help teach me *L* Its a good thing its not a MPAA song ,you know they hate fans?? its ture!! 0_o LOL

1017.3.2006 02:51

It's generally not easy to translate stuff like that and keep the meaning anyway, languages just don't work like that.

1027.3.2006 09:58

sammorris TO ture ,altho most of the time theres enough vocals there for you to hammer out a gramatticly decently sentance or 2 that more or less flows with it all. BTW how is the dual core X2 treating you? I want to spend 250 and get a ADM 64 1MB cache CPU,it dosent seem like the X2s are worth gettign just yet but sicne you have one tell me what your exp have been,I bet that has a 1mb cache to, the X2 I can afford has a 512KB cache.

1047.3.2006 11:20

Hot_ice Funny only 2? I could have sworn I was deficient in 7 or 8 things...mmmmm

1058.3.2006 10:49

I haven't got one yet! It's in my future buy list, but with financial status looking ever more bleak I may end up having to settle for the 3800 instead, possibly for the sakeof an AGEIA card, although I may not even end up with one of those. Looking into an Aria build atm, seems reasonable, totally customisable, and good service and price. Hmmm, there's something fishy about that...

1068.3.2006 11:04

sammorris can you help me to understand soemthing,I am mostly sure than a 1MB cache 2Ghz CPU would be about the same or better than a dual core 2Ghz 512Kb for games and apps that do not use 2 cores. XP can run both and over all it mgiht run better but over all you wont get the most of of the CPU untill more apps and games use 2X cores....besides I dont ahve 400+ for a CPU I am goign to get a 3700 it has a 1MB cache and should do well for acouple years...

1078.3.2006 11:08

any dual core would be better than a single core at present. Even with the relatively inexpensive X2 3800+ you get two 3200+ cores, eventually ending up as a 6400+, not bad at all.
