AACS LA confirms AACS bypass

AACS LA confirms AACS bypass The Advanced Access Content System (AACS) Licensing Authority has confirmed to the media that the AACS copy protection used to protect the contents of HD DVD and Blu-ray titles has been bypassed. However, the group wanted to make it clear that it was only a "limited" breach and that it does not represent a weakness in AACS, but displays a problem in software players instead.
The companies behind the AACS system have been investigating the claims from hacker muslix64 since the release of BackupHDDVD and the original YouTube video (which was removed) showing BaclkupHDDVD decrypting and extracting from Full Metal Jacket. Since then, HD DVD-rips have appeared on BitTorrent trackers and Usenet and Blu-ray got its own decryption tool, BackupBluray.

AACS spokesman Michael Ayers said that the hacker managed to get keys needed to decrypt the titles from "one or more pieces of software" but did not confirm whether the licensing for AACS would be revoked from the company(ies) who market the software. "We certainly have not ruled out any particular response and we will take whatever action is appropriate," Mr Ayers said.

"...only a "limited" breach..." "...displays a problem..." ? "We certainly have not ruled out any particular response and we will take whatever action is appropriate," Mr Ayers said. Pants down. No clue of what to do. I bet there's a bunch of hollywood exec types with very red faces and a bunch of engineers scurrying to hide like roaches when the lights come on. Pretty funny stuff. Greed makes the greedy dumb.

Please keep ignoring our track record.
Please stick with us & keep ripping your customers off.
Please keep on alienating your customers and refusing the obvious answer (ie sane and reasonable pricing).
Please keep on wasting vast efforts and huge resources creating these supposedly 'security systems' (none of which has ever proved uncrackable, ever) and which cost the customer so much when loaded onto the prices you charge.

I realize we have NO control over the words used by these big companies that are trying to stifle our rights, but can't WE (at least here on AD.c) stop using such derogatory terms??? Instead of saying "...hacker muslix64...", how about something more like "...consumer software advocate & developer muslix64..."?

I agree with steve. afterdawn should not use therm hacker outside of a direct quoted quote and then with an inserted [sic]. He didn't even hack AACS, but simply byassed it through a very big hole. that hole CANNOT be closed.

1628.1.2007 17:31

LOL. Funny to hear that they are dying this break down in their encryption down. You guys keep thinking that. Sooner or later the hacker will break it completley and it will become like any other normal DVD encryption out here already.

Yet they still manage to make money! I guess they think that proscecuting minors for piracy is good business! LOL! Theone

I would like to agree with all of you and throw in a little !*%# the man. Thank you to people like muslix64 and aXXo who make it possible for people like us to actually have an entertainment library.
