Jack Thompson turns messianic in latest letter

Jack Thompson turns messianic in latest letter Posted here is U.S. attorney and Christian conservative activist Jack Thompson's response to the fact that Take Two has sued him in which he posts a few biblical explanations as to why he does not want Grand Theft Auto IV or Manhunt 2 released. The text has not been changed in any way:
Dear Gamers and Gamer Publications on the Internet and Elsewhere:

I have been praying, literally, that Take-Two and its lawyers would do something so stupid, so arrogant, so dumb, even dumber than what they have to date done, that such a misstep would enable me to destroy Take-Two. With the filing of this SLAPP lawsuit last week, my prayers are finally answered.

This lawsuit, filed in US District Court for the Southern District of Florida, is, without a doubt, the single dumbest thing I have ever seen any lawyers do in my thirty years of practicing law -- while in continuous good standing to do so with The Florida Bar, I might add, the shock radio and video game industry's efforts notwithstanding.

I encourage folks to read Psalm 35, a Psalm of David, which is brilliant in its entirety (since God Himself wrote it), but for those who don't own a Bible or who think their hands will catch on fire if they touch one, here is the salient portion that applies to this lawsuit:

7 For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.

8 Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.

9 And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation.

The pit Take-Two has dug for itself will be patently clear next week when I strike back. Oh, and by the way, the entire Take-Two management and board will be gone on March 23, so this pit-digging comes at a very bad time indeed.

Amen, and Praise be to God Almighty, maker of Heaven, Earth, and yes, the maker even video games.

Jack Thompson

All those religious zealots are the same, think they're picked by god for some ridiculous crusade. Fight your wars in your OWN name Jack thompson! As for take two, take your mighty slingshot and slay the beast.

Even Bar Associations want nothing to do with this guy. He complains that he seeks to be left alone to serve God in the fashion that God has chosen, not in the fashion that two liberal bars would choose (Alabama and Florida Bars).

At this rate he won't be an attorney for long. Surely he can recognize and respect the seperation of church and state, seperated for this exact reason. Religious laws and courts of law naturally contradict each other. If a parent really doesn't care about their children's intake of content then sue the parents not a game developing firm for publishing the content. Just like its not an artist's fault if their work is pirated, its not the publishing company's fault if parents allow their children to play adult content. Perhaps its a weak comparison but I didn't sue Budweiser because the beer knocked up my wife.

First of all, everyone is either on afterdawn or playing vid games on a sunday anyway so the message is lost.

but seriously everyone needs to stop imposing their ideals of what is right on us whether it be jack or even the RIAA

Doesn't this mean that in his mind he is fighting againest his god also, so in this letter he is saying that he is crusading for his god and fighting againest his god also (WACKO).

Jack Thompson has proven that he is a hypocrite in the past, in a very large, unsettling fashion. And Penny-Arcade/Child's Play had a lot of fun coming to the rescue to compensate for his broken promise, with a $10,000 charity check.

Man it really bothers me when blowholes like this guy run their mouth. It makes us all look bad, and by "us" I mean us Christians. I am a Christian. Does that mean I'm a "religious zealot", "crazy", or have I "told anybody how to live"? I think not. I go to church, I love my God, and I play video games - and ohhhh, even a rated R movie when they don't suck. Man, I'm living on the edge!
I'm not here to tell you guys how to live. Just don't lump all of us in the same group with this nutjob.

Thanks,

B

Talk about mentally unstable. This guy, instead of arguing his case with legal precedents and whatnot. he goes on a religious rant and thus proving his unstable and hypocritical nature. he's going after take two for violence, well then why isn't he going after the company that made the violent POS game based on those "left behind" novels hmm?? Hypocrite #1 and what an embarrasment to all christians.

I truly feel sorry for all of you that have to put up with a "person" like him.

I wish people in political positions would remember that by choosing a place in which they affect(Or wish to) the government, they need to keep their religious babblings to themselves...

Really though, so many have twisted and contorted, and quoted the bible out of context for their own purposes. It's not even funny how many figures and groups have done it... Why does Jackie-boy think he's any different? Does he really think he's that righteous? I mean, the man came out in an interview, and stated bluntly that all gamers were just as bad as child rapists... Oh, how the hypocracy shines through...

He spends a lot of time, bouncing from point to point, and rattling off his 'statistics and facts' most of which have no real concrete basis. But then again, how much of the news do we read that anyone really believes is more than speculation or a big spin on a much smaller issue? The media pulls this one all the time, and yet when someone else does it, we all look surprised and astonished that someone has the gall... Maybe it's just me, but people's shock over this guy seems foolish. Whether deliberately or not, he's established his thoughts on our personal rights and freedoms; who he thinks we[gamers] are; and his sense of 'righteousness' backed politics... Clearly discouraged by our founding fathers.

For all his hypocracy, slander, and misguided attacks on the industry and it's consumers; I must honestly say, I would very much like to be able to sit down face to face with this man. Not because I want to do anything to him, not even to tell him that I think he's wrong or why I do, but to actually hear him try to verbally and coherently explain his entire arguments. I think if someone really sat down and let him get everything out, and published it, he might be stripped of his bar recognition in all fifty states, lol. Not to mention I honestly wonder if he's ever really stopped to think about what he actually says to the media, etc... Him actually having to hear this strew of words come out his own mouth might even be enough to make him stop and realize how disjointed, misplaced, and innapropriate his own arguments are. I think it would be one of the most fascinating interviews ever recorded.

Anywho, sorry about my odd ending there, it's just intriguing if you've ever heard him speak, because so many people have a hard time staying neutral with him; and it's hard to imagine that he believes the words flowing from his own mouth.

handsom
thos that are smart and have some wit normal hit the reason wall fast.
Reason makes one say WTF have I been saying...

2323.3.2007 15:32

Indeed. But I think it'd be interesting to sort of 'suspend' the logic part of the conversation, and hear the whole bit at once. That would be the kind of interview that could make his career come crashing to a permanent stop.

Not to mention, how cool would it be to be the one to finally have Mr. Thompson expose his full idiocy for the world to see? If these are excerpts of his logic, and small parts of his thought; it'd be really amusing to see the rest in some twisted sort of way.

I'd be willing to play along as the Devil's Advocate long enough to her the whole bit. Not to mention, how fun would it be to nod, smile, and agree the whole way, only to crush his entire thought process at the end of his rant... After all, that's when people are most vulnerable in debate, after all their cards are laid on the table for you to pick off one at a time. :D

You might say, I harbor some passion for this sort of debate.. lol.
