PlayStation 3 continues to outsell rivals in Australia

PlayStation 3 continues to outsell rivals in Australia Michael Ephraim, the managing director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia has said that the PlayStation 3 continues to outsell both the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 in the country and that almost 50,000 units had been sold since the console's late March launch.
Using stats from the market research firm GfK, Ephraim explained that the PS3 has outsold its rivals almost every week since launch.

"Based on GfK, since launch, PS3 has been the number one next-gen console, outselling Wii and Xbox 360 every week, except for last week,"
said Ephraim.

Ephraim also added that the sales boost were partly due to the fact that consumer electronics stores has begun selling the console, but marketing it as a Blu ray player more than a gaming machine.

"Since March 23, PS3 has been the number one selling next-gen console in Australia, and this is GfK figures.

"We've now sold 50,000 and we're very excited about the fact that it's being sold in retailers that are gaming retailers as a gaming device and other things, but as you'll notice it's now being sold in Harvey Norman consumer electronics stores as a Blu-ray player,"
he added.

Well, that makes one place where Sony is beating its rivals, but lets see how long it lasts.

Now if they just take those numbers back to when 360 and Wii were released, I'm sure they wouldn't be so proud... And the fact that sales have dropped already to the point where they are below the others, means they are unlikely to catch up either... Just a sneaky manipulation of figures by a very untrustworthy company. If only they had left off the "except for last week" part, way to shoot yourselves in the foot Sony.

I agree

The point is this the only reason ps3 is doing better is the fact that ps2 was killin it down here when that was out and thats the only reason ps3 is leading but as soon as they see glitches Aussies will alter.

if this is true then it leaves me to believe that either, Australian's have way too much money on their hands, or its cheaper there.

The top end of Aussies may have the money but i can tell you the average Aussie does not have that kinda money. In Australia the PS3 is $A1000 around that price.

THEY'VE SOLD 50,000! BIG DEAL!, Austrilia isn't a big gaming place with the continual games being banned. 360 and wii well 50,000 a week, so its nothign, this means nothing, it just shows people in Australia are smarter and buy it for a BR player, instead of a Consol.!

Wow, they've sold not-quite-50,000 since march.

That's almost as pi$$-poor as it's selling everywhere else then.

In other news, the Wii has sold 100,000 units in Aussie territory, as well as set the record (last week) for fastest launch seller ever in Australia.

I know in my local area - the "exclusive" blur-ray store of JB Hifi has moved the PS3 to the back shelf and once again has xbox360 as the focus in the gaming area along with the Wii.

Going to Hardly Normal (harvey norman for those outside) - yep their certainly pushing the PS3 in every which way they can...dont know whether its working out for them though - it would seem to me that if you have to have a product in Every corner fo the Store being showcased - then something is wrong with sales - Not the other way around
