American federal agents can now take your laptop, iPods without reason

Written by Andre Yoskowitz (Google+) @ 03 Aug 2008 22:42 User comments (101)

American federal agents can now take your laptop, iPods without reason According to new border search policies disclosed by the Department of Homeland Security, federal agents may take your laptop or other media devices for an "unspecified" period of time even without any suspicion of wrongdoing, in an effort to "prevent terrorism."
Additionally, the officials may share any content of the laptop or device with other agencies or private companies for "language translation, data decryption or other reasons."

The policies are dated as of July 16th by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement but the DHS says the policies have been in effect for "some time now."

"The policies . . . are truly alarming,"
adds Sen. Russell Feingold, a Democrat from Wisconsin who has vowed to look into the new border search policies. Feingold also plans to introduce legislation that will force the government to have "reasonable suspicion" for searches. The legislation will also limit racial and religious profiling during searches.

The policies effect anyone entering the United States, including US citizens. Civil liberties and business travel groups have been pressing for months to have the government disclose publicly these policies, after receiving complaint after complaint from international and US travelers that have had their laptops, iPods and even cell phones taken, sometimes for months at a time.

To quote exactly from the policies, federal officers can "detain any device capable of storing information in digital or analog form for a reasonable period of time" to "review and analyze information." They may do this "absent individualized suspicion."

"Any device capable of storing information in digital or analog form" means anything from iPods, laptops, cell phones and hard drives to, I kid you not, books and "written materials commonly referred to as 'pocket trash' or 'pocket litter.'"

Although there are protections on "business information and attorney-client privileged material" there is no protection on personal data of citizens, including medical or financial records.

"They're saying they can rifle through all the information in a traveler's laptop without having a smidgen of evidence that the traveler is breaking the law,"
said Greg Nojeim, senior counsel at the Center for Democracy and Technology.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff wrote last month in USA Today that "the most dangerous contraband is often contained in laptop computers or other electronic devices." He recalled times where searches have uncovered "violent jihadist materials" and hard drives full of child pornography.

Earlier this year the US Court of Appeals upheld the government's right to conduct searches without any suspicion of illegal wrongdoing.

If you wish the the full policies, they are available here: Customs search authority

So much for America being a free country.. I bet the border @ssholes will profile racially too...

Well I would love to see some of those asshats on the border (rent a cops) try to boot up my laptop with Drivecrypt installed (with boot auth password!).

They should be able to crack the password in about..oh..3,400,000 years.

wtf? what kinda s*** is this? I am a us citizen, and have been since birth. I would like to see them try to justify confiscating my voodoo µ:703, for no reason, when all it has on it is pc games... not an mp3 or anything, It being a voodoo would also feather strengthen my case that they were trying to steal my expensive gaming laptop. I would allow them to examine the data on it, and confiscate the hard drive(s) at the very most, only because i have nothing to hide, provided they were going to reimburse me the money for a new drive, on the spot. They have no need for the rest of the hardware, as i would never see it again, even if i did it would probably be scratched up (considering its in mint condition atm).

what a stupid policy, if somebody did have some kind of terrorest evidence on theres all they would have to do is "accadently" drop it when handing it over, once the drives arm snaps on impact and scratches the platters when powered up, so much for evidence...

Why doesn't bush stick to what he knows best? terrorizing foreign (probably innocent)nations...

I really like how the government tries to make us feel safer by saying it's to fight terrorism. The war on terror is a ruse to get us to submit to tighter laws taking away our freedoms and rights. I don't feel any safer knowing that the U.S. government has such tight control over us. In fact it makes me feel less safe knowing that incompetent imbeciles are there to protect me.

73.8.2008 23:52

I know that the 4th amendment pertaining to "being secure in ourselves and our papers" existed for our homes, but now the prevention of illegal search and seizure without warrant is need more than ever.

And whatever happened to probable cause anyway ?

lol nah there are plenty of laws in the American system that are completely unnecessary and are never followed up on....oh well another law that wont be enforced.....and considering the intelligence and high caliber of people working at our airports security passes..... lol that was a joke people!

104.8.2008 0:07

This is ******* retarded. Those A$$***** think they can fight terrorism by stealing our laptops and other personal devices. I'm traveling in 2 days and I'll be putting a hard to decrypt password on my laptop. If they take it they can go ahead and take my hard drive, not the laptop.

They're not high they're drunk with power. I'm curious how many people know the history of democracies. If I remember correctly their average lifespan is around 200 yrs. How does that old saying go "those that don't know their history are doomed to repeat it" or something like that.

Look I'm all for the goverment protecting me but This just plan stupid and it even promotes/allows racism.

I second that more then half the stuff will end up "missing" or "missing" the return address information by the time its time to mail it back to you. and im sure it says somewhere that all unclaimed items become the property of the government. Just because its not worth it for somebody to rip off your $400 dell dose not mean they wouldn't try it with better stuff.

I'm thinking of myself and my stuff (which i worked dam hard to get) (you can call it selfish or what ever you want)because the goverment sure as hell isn't if they have there way they will abolish social security and Medicare and I will have to work till the day i die. the government was on prior notice of 911 yet they did nothing to prevent it, now they are joking around with this crap to try and look like they give a dam, This is the biggest joke (and insult) yet. All politicians look out for them selves, then the American people not the other way around, anybody that says otherwise really needs to take a look at modern history.

SDF_GR was Saddam a fascist was he, i think you should give up reading the sun (UK bigoted, narrow minded paper for the masses of sheep owned by government propaganda tool, Rupert Murdoch (sky, ect)) and try to learn some history, instead of making wild uneducated statements that make you look stupid!

Did the US fight Germany in WW II because the Nazis were evil, the Cold War because Stalin was wicked, and seek to contain China because Mao killed millions?

Seriously read a book or two, American foreign policy and greed of the ruling elite is the cause of most of the worlds issues which is why Iran and Venezuela are both targets, nationalise oil or banking and the bombs will start to drop, and even worse start to trade in euros instead of the dollar and the troops will be sent in, and you will be hung as an example.

here are the fascists:

30/10/2000 Iraq changes form $ to euro’s for oil sales (axis of evil 1)

2001 Iran switch form $ to euro’s for oil sales (axis of evil 2)

7/12/2002 North Korea switches all trading from the $ to euro’s, not just oil. (axis of evil 3)

Hugo Chavez Venezuela held chairmanship of Opec & puts on the table for all petroleum sales to be Switched from $ to euro would collapse the $ so
America turns to anti propaganda towards Venezuela to oust a democratically elected leader!

BUSH'S DEEP REASONS FOR WAR ON IRAQ: OIL, PETRODOLLARS, AND THE OPEC EURO QUESTION

take your time its about 3 a4 sides long so maybe read a few lines a day then maybe you can read some books on Palestine and the weapons given to Israel for free by the USA to commit genocide there all paid for by the US tax dollar who are the fascists SDF_GR?

So you would have no problem with the government holding onto your property for an undisclosed time for no reason what so ever.

I wonder the s^$t storm that would be generated if a country that isn't exactly friendly with the U.S if they tried to introduce this law. Imagine if China has something like this, it would be front page news. These are the sort of horror stories they used to tell you what it would be like living in the Soviet Union. (back in the day)

Ughh, sorry for the rant, but its stupid laws like this that makes me angry.

That's the sad part...if the law prevails, they CAN do it, and not pay you a single penny...

Of course I wouldn't let them touch my expensive electronics...If they want them to charge me for a crime, I'll give them a good reason, beating up and probably ripping the head of anyone that confiscates my electronics for no good reason...

These people are stupid...terrorists live ahead of the law...if the law is trying to search hard drives and memory cards, well terrorists will probably have another whole new way of storing their data...Like swallowing flash drives and such...if they could fit cell phones on their asses, why can't they swallow a plastic flash drive to avoid being detected by magnets?...

And as someone above me stated, I don't know what's the big deal with all this. They knew that 911 was gonna happen and they did nothing....now they're willing to take away our freedom just to satisfy their electronics needs without paying. Besides if terrorist really want to do something big, they'd just remotely fire a nuclear bong into the US and that's that...no need to go through airports...

And even further...the biggest terrorist in the world have the the US and most of it's presidents...I don't mix with politics and/or politicians nor do i like talking about it, but most presidents including Bush are being menaces to the life of thousands of innocent people...

Lowest taxes and best social programs? To and for whom? I won't get into stereotypes, but the type of racial profiling that is discussed in this article are the same people who reep the rewards of "lower taxes, better social programs". It sounds like bigotry on my end, but all I can tell you is that I'm a born American citizen who loses 30% of my paycheck up front to taxes, then spends another 6-7% on sales taxes when I shop for goods or even higher rates when I fuel up my car, so I CAN commute to earn a living.

I do not benefit from any social programs and the few that I, or any of my friends have applied for, such as financial aid for education, just doesn't come easy for the middle America that largely support these programs with their sweat and blood. It's this same middle America that has to tolerate these ridiculous laws, all in favor of "fighting the war on terror." Our government has a huge deficit and is more worried about doing things abroad, then the issues facing us here. New Orleans anyone?

Then there are countless stupid laws meant to constrict my free time, such as DMCA, and jobs being shipped overseas. Also, I am legally not allowed to play online poker, because it "could fund terrorism", yet I could flip on my satellite tv any hour of the day and bet on horse racing. Once great companies like General Motors are now being crippled to the point where they may disappear. What the hell happened to this great nation of ours in the last few years?

I get intimidated and asked questions when trying to re-enter my OWN country from Canada, in 2002, 2003 and 2004. I guess my state issued driver's license and notarized birth certificate, both legal documents that can be traced and verified, aren't satisfactory enough: now I will have to shell out $100 or more to get a government issued passport. Now pile on the fact that they can search and seize pretty much anything they want at the border. The last thing I need to worry about is lying about whether I've been in/out of the country enough to qualify for the Duty Free.

I'm sorry, I may support our troops, but I don't support our wars. They make terrorism out to be like the school yard bully, hunting you down for your lunch money, until you pop him once with your fist, and everyone realizes that he's not as tough as he said he was. We as Americans need to grow up and learn to take matters into our own hands instead of crying "poor me" and whining to have someone else take care of it for us. Otherwise the bullies will keep bullying us and we'll just keep taking it where it hurts.

Oh hell, I didn't even get started on the NRA and our right to bear arms. That's for another discussion.

I'm so glad that I recently moved to Canada, at least people up here stir up a shitstorm when crap like this happens. This is just one more thing to make border travel even more horrible than it already is (yes, that IS possible). No more taking my laptop or personal paperwork across the border, except for my passport. It is looking like "unreasonable paranoia" isn't so unreasonable after all... Yet another way that the constitution is being shat upon by the government that it created.

@SProdigy: I hate to break it to you, but getting a passport will not prevent them from hassling you.

The one piece of advice i have for anyone who wants to cross the border is to be compliant, but not helpful. Don't offer information unless you are asked for it, and don't offer to let them search your vehicle unless asked. I know it seems counter intuitive, but those behaviors will only cause problems. And for those who ask, yes, i did find these rules out the hard way.

Edit:

The problem is that free countries are inherently insecure to start with. The only way to provide security is to take away the freedoms that security is supposed to protect. Maybe next time, the gestapo will be kicking in our doors in the middle of the night to rifle through whatever we may have, and "extraordinarily render" us to a place where they will proceed to "humanely interrogate" us. Personally, i would rather have all of my rights intact, and take the chance of being killed in the terrorist attack. I would say the odds are in my favor (2750 killed on sept. 11 out of 300,000,000 in the country, as opposed to 300,000,000 out of 300,000,000 people being screwed out of their constitutional rights).

Well yeah; a good message to your politicians who have completely forgotten the ideas your country has been built on. Sad state of things to see; once upon a time USA has been a model of democracy for European countries, not it's trying to export totalitarianism worldwide - in the name of the "holy war" against terrorism. :=(

Actually I'm struggling to see what point you are making.. The people who wrote the constitution were trying to build a better democracy that the one that gave them no vote and treated them like slaves and property. US democracy was not the model for most European democracies.. they decided what they wanted for themselves, strangely enough mostly well before 1945. Like most Americans you seem to be lacking in the basics of world history before 1946.. before the USA decided it owned the world.

We didn't dance in the streets the day the USAF packed it's bags and got the hell off our soil, but we damn well should have!!! We now owe you nothing.. not a sausage.. we have "paid our ally" the financial debts of WW2.. now we just need to finish paying the jew bankers in the Bank of England for helping us defeat Napoleon.. Then we can have a proper revolution and be free of these Stalinist autocrats once and for all..

This "war on terrorism" is a lie.. it's the biggest lie of modern times, along with the "you are free people"
We can fight our own wars thanks.. http://wiganbnp.blogspot.com/2008/06/com...e-magazine.html

Good news!.. the chocolate ration has been increased to 20 grammes...So who is winning this week?.. Eastasia or Oceania?

Actually I must've come off the wrong way. I was whining about how we have to go through more hoops now for what was once an "open" border. Funny, I don't see Canadians running into Montana overnight and giving birth to "American" citizens so they can obtain legal rights to services available to "every" American!

I read the policies. One of the reasons customs wants to search computers is to look for "information in violation of copyright or trademark laws". Maybe if you play bootleg copies of songs backwards you can hear "violent jihadist" slogans. Oh my, they're everywhere! They're all around us! Run for your lives!

Well the bush administration only has a couple of months to go, hopefully all of these scare tactics that violate our personal liberty's will eventually be remedied.

If the downward spiral continues then a 1984 type scenario really isn't all that far fetched.

I didn't mention clinton, if you didn't like him then I’m fine with that. I'm sure he did plenty of things that were not in the best interest of the people. That being said I'm sure anything he did pales in comparison to what the bush administration has managed to shove down our throats in the past 8 years.

It is so terribly depressing travelling through the bloggosphere and visiting places on the Internet. So many ideas, so many discussions, so much talk! Yet everything sooner or later disappears as if through a black hole or gets drowned in the babble of voices struggling to be heard (including this one!). There is nothing left. No light! Most of us remain if not as ignorant, at least as impotent in the face of the challenges and threats we face today and those we will be facing tomorrow, as when we first embarked on this "electronic" search for a better world. Blogging, as it is presently, is indeed a very passive activity but it has a dark side to it also in that it lulls us into a false sense of comfort and satisfaction. I am thinking that perhaps there is a need for more "active" blogging. Not that discussion and pondering and ranting are no longer useful and should be thrown on the scrap heap. What if along with all that there was also sharing of the concrete actions that one is taking in one's own particular life for the advancement of a better world. For example, along with ranting against the big bad US invading Iraq for oil, why not also add what one is doing PERSONALLY to reduce one's own oil consumption - SUV or hybrid? What group have we joined and what concrete steps is it taking for a better world? How can others join? I fear that unless we learn of creative ways - or share them if we already have them - to transform today's "echo chambers" (which is what the Internet and the bloggosphere for the most part have become) into some kind of "launching pads" towards real activism in the real world, we will remain trapped with each other, albeit in a "wonderful world of intelligent discourse", talking to each other, across each other, about what we should be doing or what we should be thinking, instead of going out there and really tackling the problems. It would be interesting, for example, to have on this site maybe a listing (or links to listings) of TRUE activism (community, grassroots) instead of COUNTERFEIT activism (corporate-backed or government-backed activism disguised as the former !). In other words, action (and ideas always of course!) but not just talk. Talk is cheap! We can't afford it anymore!

Well I see at least a few people agree with me. And Ankoku how dumb are you really? So you're a college student with 50+ grand in debt. Big whoop. How can anyone not believe that our government either just let 9/11 happen or committed it themselves. I pay my taxes too. My federal My state My local My sales and lord knows what else they will come up with. And our national debt more than $8,000,000,000,000. Where does all of our "tax" money go? "The majority of people aren't starving" again I ask how dumb are you? Does anyone have a count on the amount of homeless people there are in this once great country. No one really does. And a government that works relatively well. Take your G*D D*MN blinders off will you. "If the government feels like it, they can take your house" Now watch what you say that sounds like communism to me. Oh and anything illegal. well lets see I have 9,000+ mp3's on my PC. About half of them downloaded. The other half is a mix of my own purchased CD rips and those of personal friends. I also have 418 downloaded movies on my PC. I also download about two per day. And I also own around 300 DVD's. Oh and 65 GIG of TV shows at around 350Mb or less a piece. You do the math there. I don't own a laptop anymore. Didn't have the need for one. But I do have mp3 players and a cellphone with a memory card. I could give a rats ass if the government can see any I have. But they will have to kill me to get their hands on any of the five I own and use on a daily basis. And my moded XBOX including my five external hard drives. All behind three firewalls. Two hardware and one software. Yes I'm a pirate I don't care. My 51yr old mother downloads music and movies as well. Does she see anything wrong with it. Hell no! She knows because I've informed her that the artists make a majority of their money on tour. Not through record/cd sales. And the actors get paid weather the movie does great or bombs. RIIA AND MPAA=labels and studios.

Protection against unwarranted search and seizure is our 4th amendment. Why doesn't it offend you that this is being violated? Why are you so quick to give up your freedom? Your response sounds like an emotional one based in fear. Fear that if we don't give up our freedom that we won't be safe. Without freedom, none of us are safe. And since you invoked 9/11--the more freedom Americans surrender, as a result of the attack, the more those terrorists won.

To the guy who thinks this is ok since he isnt doing anything illegal....Well I dont do anything illegal in my house but I still dont want the Government to come in and look around anytime they want just because they think i might be doing something illegal...this isnt China we are supposed to be protected from illegal search without just cause...so this law basically says F-that to the constitution.

if you didnt know this existed since Bush and the government have walked all over it since 911

* Fourth Amendment – Protection from unreasonable search and seizure.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

625.8.2008 19:13

I shouldn't do this but I just had to add to the idiocy!!!

What part of government do you people NOT understand?? Do you really think that GWB runs this country or is it possibly the rest of the government that passes these insane laws that we have to follow as US citizens!!! I'm a born and bread American, more rightly Texas and of course US patriot!!! It doesn't meant that I accept or like all the laws that I live under but it seems there isn't a BETTER place to go atm.... OF course my choices are very limited since I only speak English but it also seems that most of the world knows how to speak it. I wonder why?? Is it because of the Empirical nature of the US?, NAH; the tyrannical nature?, NAH; how bout the search for world domination?, NAH!!!!!

So what is it?? You guys seem so smart as to know exactly what the country is doing and why it's running the way it is.... Do you all live here?? (the USA of course) OR do you just thro rotten fruit at something you don't know anything about?? /me is guessing the second option.... ROFL...

Name a country that is perfect and I'll name the flaws at what they govern by. They all have flaws but it seems they all have citizens that love them. Who loves their country of origin?? And if you don't then why not?? Did you move out?? Or do you just sit in a cesspool of your own pity and do nothing about it. Take proper action DON'T do something foolish like taking peoples lives.... What good does that do?? We all have to live on this planet whether we like it or not. Something to think about for sure.....

NOW on to the topic at hand....

Do you people really think the US government is gonna take your precious little lappy?? LOL. I think not as long as nothing seems suspicious about it. If they start taking devices as you people seem to think then the LAWYERS of this country and others will have a complete field day with law suites!!! NOW if you wanna do the world a favor then find a way to do away with about oh let's say 100% of the lawyers and then the governments which we run under and the countries we live under will be even better than they already are, of course assuming you hate lawyers and like the country you live in already. lol.

MORE to come later .... :P

Well the fact of the matter is if they wanted to check my laptop or any electronic device they could do it without reason with this law is crap. The government has hackers, and can monitor phone calls already which makes me think how much privacy are we going to have later on.I like having my privacy, and if its going to be stripped away from me then its not the country I predicted. Its being stripped away from us in very small stages and most people don't realise it.I don't put all the blame on the president as congress is just as much to blame for this law being passed.I live in America, and yes I'm starting to get fed up with price gouging and laws that go against my privacy. If my electronics are taken away from me without reason then I will make sure they know what a terrorist is like it is as simple as that.I'm not going to say its definately going to happen to me,but if it does then yeah I'm not going to stand by and let them take what I have worked for away from me.If it is illegal then so be it,but I'm not going to stand with a thumb up my arse and let them do it.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin

IOW, sorry but you've been brainwashed by GWB.
This article, along with the 'Patriot Act', a war with a country whose village elders simply asked for evidence before extraditing O. bin Laden, a war with an oil-rich country for no apparent reason, innumerable violations of the letter and spirit of our constitution by the one who swore to protect it - all of these things I was thinking of using to illustrate how a perceived threat has, historically, been used to induce people to request, from fear, their liberties be taken away. The non-existent 'Jewish threat' in Nazi Germany is one of the few examples everyone knows of. Our country was to serve as an example of people who religiously defended every liberty they originally fought and died for.

All but a handful of people in the World would have condoned the criminal act of 9/11. What was needed then was to convince the World. This was an opportunity for the US to model its response upon that of the Scots during the bombing of a Pan Am airliner, and create a World-wide cooperation among law-enforcement agencies and everyday people to permit terrorists no place to hide. All of this I have really no need to expand upon, for the above quote says it all.

This is directed to Ankoku, the young college student from Texas so proud and puffed up with hubris: What the hell are you learning down there in Texas and what college do you attend? I want to make sure none of my friends waste so much money going there or send their children there. You paid 50,000 devalued republican dollars to learn to act like a little lamb being led to the slaughter house? Have you ever visited another country other than to find a cheap whore or get drunk? Jeeze I wish we could just say you dumbf....rs won the war against Lincoln and you can go back to the glory days of slavery and ignorance.
BTW, I was born in the US but fortunately opened my mind through travel and education. Now when I travel abroad I put Canadian flags on my luggage to hide my true identity. Yes I am ashamed to admit that I share the same country you numbskulls hijacked and destroyed.

Oppression never reduces. The technical term is that it is a "monotonically increasing function" or sequence or what-have-you.

The "War On Drugs", originated by G.H.W.Bush as Acting Head of CIA under Ronald Reagan via Iran-Contra Guns-For-Drugs where Cocaine transported from South/Central America in CIA aircraft and sold on the streets of Los Angeles for cash to buy guns from Iran for reshipment to the South/Central American "Freedom Fighters" [terrorists] wasn't working fast enough, so his son G.W. sped things up by starting WW III.
The best we can hope for is that the oppression only increases marginally in our own lifetime. Our kids are f**ked...

I guess the original writer is too young to remember the U.S. Government making it a felony to own or attempt to purchase the original PGP because it was essentially uncrackable in real time. Truecrypt has FBI-verified back doors, or it would NOT be lawful for U.S. citizens to own or use. Bet on it.

I used to work for the phone company. 90% of the electronics hardware you pay for, has no function other than to allow the FBI to instantly tap-in and eavesdrop any call made to or from any phone in the entire country. They don't even share. You have to pay separately for separate 911-Operator trace hardware. (Now you know why your phone bill may be higher than your electric bill.~)

Yeaah, I guess you're right... GW doesn't always have the final say. Dick Cheney usually has some input too, Despite that GW's old man is a lifetime Director of the CIA, he (GW) still sometimes has to get the OK from Halliburton Industries or Dick Cheney. (re: "Cheney's War", PBS).

He wants to INCREASE taxes for the poor, the under-privileged, and whoever doesn't want to work for themselves. LOL. From what I understand England is in a similar situation and the general population that support that country is fed up with it too..... Is this true?? I want responses from the working class or the people that actually support that country. You have a point I think both parties are a complete mess, and the solution to the problem is bring in another party.A party that doesn't focus on the rich or the poor, but the middle class. The problem is both parties Reps and Dems know they only have to deal with each other, another party doesn't even cross their mind.I don't think having Obama in office would be a good thing either, considering he doesn't even know how many states are in America. He slips up every now and then with racial slurs the guy is an idiot bottom line.

The views expressed in the media are miss interpreted for other countries. Its mainly dirt that is brought up and there is no mention of some of the good things we do for other countries. Its a mess no doubt about it,and I don't see it being fixed anytime soon with a 10 billion dollar defecet. The dollar is a piece of crap, and used to be something back in the day. When it comes to politics vote for a candidate that doesn't try to screw you the hardest, because the candidates we can choose from are a joke.

Quite frankly, there is now no effin way I'm nipping over to NY to do my Christmas shopping if every storage device I have is liable to this.
Can't live without my phone, lappie and mp3 player. You lose out on some extra bucks......Then again, I have a sneaking suspicion that I'd be the wrong racial profile to be a suspect. This all sucks big time and I'm letting all my friends know about this - friends that spend money in The States. No more Euros for you.

http://blogs.reuters.com/trail08/2008/08...ressure-debate/ yeah and I wonder who would actually buy an Obama tire gauge engraved with "Obama's energy plan" haha lol.I wonder how do they know my tires are not inflated properly.Hell a tire gauge isn't something new everybody uses them. That was a good one garmoon props for bringing that up.

How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think.

The art of leadership... consists in consolidating the attention of the people against a single adversary and taking care that nothing will split up that attention.

Seriously whats your point with these A. Hitler statements?? They make NO sense and to even try to compare the USA with Nazi Germany is ludicrous to say the least. I guess that I'm one of the CATTLE that the rest of the world talks about especially the Euros and in particular the Brits... ROFL... Well have your fun.......

Thanks for providing some educated support greensman, I really appreciate it, seeing as how these individuals seem to have little understanding, and to mr. "I'm going to leave the U.S. for Canada" lets set some things straight, I am not from Texas, that would be GM, and I attend Whittier College, one of the most liberal colleges in the US, and I don't see how anything I have said relates to the Civil War or slavery, and it is completely ludicrous to relate the US being able to search your laptop to slavery, and that is all I will say about that because you waste my time with that assertion...

I also don't understand how this is flawed logic, the fact is, terrorism exists and in order to keep ourselves safe, we must forfeit some freedoms, and I personally feel like giving up my laptop isn't that big of a deal if it means I'm a little more protected.

Frankly, they aren't taking your homes, its just your computer, and although you all might be married to the damn thing, it shouldn't really matter all that much to you...

On a final note, I enjoy how everyone seems to commit themselves to all the propaganda they find on the internet...Guess what, our friends in the United Kingdom and throughout Europe pay at least twice as much for gasoline as we do...Government hardly controls the cost of oil, rather it is OPEC and investors, if you would all just take some time to watch the market you would understand this...honestly

You can think what you want.. We see the parallels too clearly as we have not yet been brainwashed by the corrupt.

By the time you stupid people see what is going on you will have nothing left, and no way back.

Great men wrote that piece of paper you wave around. It wasn't so much a statement of revolution as a way to avoid one in the future. They were aware of what was happening in France and were trying to avert what will come in America now one day because of the path chosen by the rich and greedy of oppression. Continue being subservient and meek.. I can tell you.. the meek shall inherit bugger all.. because the rich and greedy won't let them have any.

Maybe if you lot had ever had your borders threatened by a totalitarian regime.. or had some bombs fall from the skies, or had the jack boots of the enemy stamping in your streets and kicking down your doors you would see these despots for what they really are, instead of seeing them from what they tell you.

Obviously it is a sad day when a real Nazi like me has to educate so called "free men" on the values of liberty. Liberty and freedom are non negotiable.. you either have them or you don't.

I second that it was a really good post and is the most intelligent one by far.

@Ankoku I don't consider you being better than anybody else just because you go to Whittier College. You should go to a college that doesn't brainwash you, instead of buying into all the government BS you need a mind of your own.If its a law that invades my privacy I'm against it,and always will be.The government has plenty of methods already for terrorism, and this law is garbage.I do agree with you on the Hitler quotes though they are out of proportion.

Whoa varnull I think you went a little too far how can you substitute a jew for a terrorist? A terrorist is a broad term meaning it could be any nationality.I don't think Hitler's mind was right and I still don't till this day.I can consider his war strategy genius, but I don't agree with what he did.Hitler started war over race and the war we are in right now is over terrorism completely different.

L-Burna

The war we are in now is over oil and has been all along. Do you you think we would give a flip over the middle east sand box if it weren't loaded with oil. Afghanistan is where the terrorism originated but they didn't have any oil so the war was moved conveniently to protect (control)the oil.

God got me on the way home 2 hrs ago from getting a haircut-I had a tire blow out. Going at slow speed tho, so now I'm getting two tires. let me tell you how much fun it was at 95degrees in concrete parking lot of a church with a scissors jack! LMAO

To everyone who feels like we need to give up freedom for "security"...First of all we aren't any more secure with less freedom now then we were with our freedoms before 9-11. If anything we are less secure since the institutions within our government, which are supposed to protect us, are run by crooks and incompetents--not to mention that were at war which certainly doesn't help with our security. The President is going to have to start saying "they hate us for our security," when we don't have any freedom left to resign.

By the way, freedom isn't a partisan issue. If you believe it is, than you probably have more loyalty to your party than you do to your country.

Oh, so all this crap has made us safer, eh?

Fool. Try visiting Europe, N. Africa, the Middle East, or any other location outside the US. There's a good reason our own damn State Department recommends all US travellers use Canadian stickers and such!

I REFUSE to give up Constitutional rights without the required 2/3 supermajority of the states ratifying an amendment, period. All these backdoor moves are methods of a police state; hell, I can give you specific examples of how many police states employed the very same methods! That is, in fact, what all those quotes by Adolph are telling you... He used many of the same BS tactics himself!

Both parties are brought and paid for and are putting restrictions in place for something, maybe a food crisis or a semi civil uprising hence the start of the removal of your weapons in the USA, bush is certainly not Hitler but the policies are very similar.

GOTO, the links and look at the fascist laws, you know i'm sure thousands of ppl died in world war 2 to protect our liberties from authoritarian governments like we have in the USA and UK now, or was the war about killing a terrorist with WMD's i'm not sure anymore as i don't read books, i only watch the TV propaganda pumped out by Rupert Murdoch.

Compare Provisions in “Hitler’s Laws” with U.S. FISA Amendments Act Of 2008

Perturbing many Americans including this writer, compare provisions in “Hitler’s Laws” with the U.S. FISA AMENDMENTS ACT OF 2008 the U.S. Senate is about to Pass. Note similar manner the Act HR 6304 suspends U.S. Constitutional 4th Amendment Protections and Telecommunication Privacy for Americans.

After the FISA Act passes, many U.S. Citizens may be reluctant to submit articles to Independent Media Centers and other publications. Freedom was nice while it lasted...short but nice.

It is absolutely striking how language in pending S.1959, "The Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act" appears to mirror some of Hitler’s Discriminatory Laws the Fuhrer signed in 1933.

Hitler’s laws invoked fear in German Citizens. Outlawed free speech and banned any act of expression that might threaten the German State—according to police. The one thing that I find funny about all of the above. Is the fact that all of the sheeple just don't want to admit it. They feel be nice and cozy but don't know all of the things that are going on without their knowledge. Mostly because it isn't reported on by the big media/news. Or they do the whole "well don't believe everything you see on the internet" and are too lazy to go find proof for themselves.

As much as I love the lolatarinans I'd rather vote for the obamanator to make sure the reapers stop raping us in the same orifices, and gives the dims a chance to rape us in the healed ones, to many years of the same party will ensure us a fascist state.
