New Nintendo DS has camera, music player According to a new Nikkei business daily, gaming giant Nintendo is planning to release a new model of its popular DS handheld before the end of the year, one that has a built-in camera and a music player.
The price will be a bit more expensive than the current model, but will also come equipped with "advanced wireless communications functions." The price is expected to be about $189 USD in Japan, according to the Nikkei. The console sells for much cheaper in the US, but there was no word on a NA release.

The official announcement is set for next week at a Tokyo press conference.

The DS is currently the most popular of all consoles and regularly outsells its main rival, the Sony PSP. The PSP however, has been outselling the DS in Japan for some time now, which is a potential sign that the current model's sales growth is slowing.

I was about to write the exact same thing, my daughter can watch movies and listen to music via the R4, it's the reason we purchased the device, which costs £20 including shipping from Asia with a 2gig Micro SD Memory card also included.

You can even get them from amazon.co.uk for as little as £18.76

The taking photos is missing but she has a 10mp Digital camera so why would you want a camera that's no better than ones in current mobile phones, unless you want to use it to make desktop icons, as the quality is far too poor for anything else!

Any pictures on this?

I only use mine to play games. I rarely use mine to listen to music. I don't see myself using the camera. I only use my camera phone for emergency photos since the quality is so low. I just don't see myself buying one.

That should be cool, but if you want a camera, well...buy a camera...or use the one on your cellphone, most cellphones these days have integrated cameras. And I do have an M3 adapter, which I've never used for music or videos...that's why I bought an iPod. But if someone can't afford a camera, or an iPod, well get the new DS...I still have to see it to decide over my current Ds lite or the new DS (2?)....

The quality wouldn't be as good... The DS doesn't have a spectacular display screen. I would rather use my cell phone or PSP since they have a better screen resolution.

Ok why would you want a camera it is just going to use it with a new version of pictochat
Nothing else and 189.99 for a new ds why when the older model is only 129.99.

big deal a camera oh i am so scared.

I think the only reason nintendo would release a new ds is to stop the r4 and other devices.

That would be an impossible feat because of the sheer amount in circulation. But the next incarnation hand-held from them, will address some of the home-brew abilities of the current model no doubt.

Open source Home-Brew takes valuable profits away from they "official" upgrades.

Open Source to Corporations is: a disgrace to the forces of evil

Any word on the resolution of the camera?

Personally I feel that giving a handle held device too any extra bits and features will make it go over the top if u want a mp3 player go gwt your self an ipod or and equvilant not a hand held game device that has and this is my main point that it has limited memory anyway. I remember i went and asked about the psp and they told me it was only 2gig and that is not even enough to play some of the latest games soo i say get the DS because u want a DS and not because of the extra features.
