Sony developing motion controller for the PS3

According to a new patent filing, Sony is developing a wireless motion sensitive controller for the PlayStation 3 that will use a new type of "ultrasonic tracking system."
The controller itself will break apart and combine to perform different actions.

"Game interface tracks the position of one or more game controllers in 3-dimensional space using hybrid video capture and ultrasonic tracking system," reads the summary at the US Patent & Trademark office.

"The captured video information is used to identify a horizontal and vertical position for each controller within a capture area. The ultrasonic tracking system analyses sound communications to determine the distances between the game system and each controller and to determine the distances among the controllers,"
reads the document.

HA! POOR SONY I DONT CARE FOR MOTION MOVEMENT IN MY CONTROLLER I HAVE A Wii WHAT THEY SHOULD DO IS LOWER THE DAMN PRICE THAT WOULD GET GAMERS GOING; IT DID IT FOR THE XBOX 360 AND GOOD GAMES HAVENT THEY LEARNED THAT GOOD GRAPHICS ARENT ENOUGH ANYMORE?

the ps3 has had motion controlls since the beginning, just nothing this sophisticated. It's harder to make controlls from the ground up instead of stealing them from a former midway employee like the wii did.

This is probably the last thing that sony needs to be doing right now. Yet another controller technology for the ps3... I seriously feel left out as a gamer between the focus on bluray and now this which seems like a big banner saying "look it can be a WII too".

Sony needs to cut the crap and start focusing on pushing out games instead of collecting patents. I have been an avid playstation supporter since day 1 but with this latest generation of consoles it just seems like they have their fingers in to many pie's, and are never going to get their act together to be able to seriously compete in the long run.

That's right I remember that being an issue...and also the XaviX http://www.xavix.com/ being out WAAAY before the Wii.

Meh, motion control will be made redundant by a device you will wear on your head.

Measuring your brain patterns it will respond to thoughts, movements and even emotions.

Think I'm joking? Think I'm a crank? I've seen it demonstrated on the "New Inventors" show on ABC TV in Oz. (ABC is the sister to the BBC in Britain here.) I was floored. Whilst still in it's nascent phases it's still coming. And yes, the guy made it specifically for gaming, although I can think of a thousand and one other uses for it.

Oh yeah, it's worth considering that even science fiction hasn't caught up with this idea.
