Denon introduces ‘Universal’ Blu-ray player Denon Electronics has announced that they will be introducing the world's first "universal" Blu-ray player.
The BD-Live capable DVD-A1UCDI will retail for $3800 USD when it ships in two months and will support DVD Audio, SACD along with standard DVDs and CDs.

Users can use an SDHC memory card to play files in popular formats such as WMA, MP3 audio, DiVX 6 video and JPEG images. A "built-in audio-restorer function improves the quality of compressed music."

The 4th-generation Link port means the player will integrate with any Denon amplifier.

As for inputs, there are a pair of HDMI 1.3 inputs, component video, S-video, composite video, optical and coaxial digital audio, balanced two-channel stereo analog audio and an Ethernet port.

The player also notably supports Dolby TrueHD decoding and DTS-HD Master Audio, each with full analog 7.1-channel audio.

I don't think that's what "universal" means.
There are already region free BD players/movies. I think "universal" refers to the video/audio formats supported, inputs and such...
P.S. To mister editor, a spelling check required:) "input"

And make me breakfast.

I could go for breakfast( I guess kinda like the food synthesizers or replicators aboard of ships in Star Trek and such...), but a HJ from a machine? I don't know, it just doesn't sound enticing at all...It either has a woman's touch, or DIY!

Wonder how it will measure aganst the PS2 Blu ray player? Only time will tell.

That is a pretty hefty price tag. Too hefty for my blood.

Ehh, seems like a waste of money. You could buy a computer that does all of that and more for like $2500 max.

Hello Denon.... Have you not noticed the economy melting down?

$3800..are you freaking crazy!?!!?

Try removing one of the "0"'s in the price.

I was thinking the exact same thing while reading the article, only with a lower computer price. And if you want it region free, you can get AnyDVD or other similar program. $3800 is ridiculous.

Wow.. looks pretty robust.

Way to expensive, but looks nice.

uh yeah, pretty sure those are outputs.

Is it just me or is that thing enormous and it has 3 plugs for power or am I seeing something wrong.

It looks like one of the old cd players back in the 1980's.

Those were huge too but I guess when you really think about it the first dvd player was 2500 or more plus the recorders were more then that in 2000.

I think the price tag is a bit much though.

LOL! The 2 round connectors towards the left side are balanced XLR outputs.

Some audiophile grade preamps give you the option to use balanced XLR connections instead of the usual RCA presumably to decrease line "noise" in less than ideal environments.

No way. Not for that price tag.
