iPhone confirmed for more Canadian carriers

Written by Andre Yoskowitz @ 06 Oct 2009 4:24 User comments (8)

iPhone confirmed for more Canadian carriers Apple has announced that the iPhone will be headed to Canadian carriers Bell and Telus beginning next month, meaning Rogers will no longer have exclusivity in the nation.
Both carriers confirmed the move this morning, and say both the iPhone 3G and 3GS will be available next month, although price for the models, or data plans, were not given.

Until recently, both carriers had run on CDMA cell networks, for which the current iPhone models are not compatible. Both have upgraded to to the iPhone-supported HSPA standard however, and it appears that was the only hurdle.

This week, Morgan Stanley analysts noted that Apple should drop exclusivity around the world, and likely see their sales double.

The iPhone is currently not in Israel because the device has trouble with languages that write from right to left (such as Hebrew). Apple is working on it. Rest assured there will be an article on it when it becomes official.

Oh snap WTF, Bell and Telus are supporting GSM now? Maybe my Voyager won't last as long as I would like :(

Soon enough they'll just completely drop CDMA as GSM is where the rest of the world is at...

Anyone could have told them that...no one wants AT&T or China Unicom.

But apple does not care about making money. Their only goal is to promote bad companies and evil governments. This is why AT&T has had a monopoly for years, and this is also why they are selling iPhones to China without any profit.

It's about F___'n time. Rogers has been gauging us for 2 years. Even though their ONLY competitors, Bell and Telus aren't much better, I'm hoping there will a little more competition. I wish the Canadian government would keep their promise of opening up the airwaves to US carriers. Then maybe we would see some real competition and lowering of prices/rates.

Isn't that how it goes with the Jesus Phone..."I have it, but not officially?" Maybe it's a priority thing. I've had MMS on my 2G since July, but Apple won't officially add it to the 2G why? $$$$ They want you to buy a new phone.
