Sony says PS3 sold 3 million units in UK Sony has announced that the PlayStation 3 (PS3) console has sold 3 million units in the United Kingdom since it was launched. "We'd like to offer a huge thank you to our retail partners in helping us pass the 3 million PS3 milestone," said Ray Maguire of Sony UK.
"The £249 price point is enabling us to reach a much broader audience and our line up of software, Heavy Rain, and God of War III - and that's just in Q1 - should help maintain the momentum." Back in July of last year, the console had reportedly moved 2.2 million units in the region, highlighting a very decent 800,000 units sold in the second half of 2009.

Around the same time, Microsoft had said the Xbox 360 was up to 3.9 million units in the UK, while in December of 2009, Nintendo revealed that the Wii had reached 6 million unit sales. The Wii is leading the market easily worldwide with 56 million units sold globally.

Microsoft revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that the Xbox 360 console sold 39 million units worldwide since it was launched. The last time the global installed base of the PlayStation 3 (PS3) was revealed by Sony was in its Q2 2009 financial data, and at the time the console had sold 27 million units worldwide.

With God Of War 3, Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo 5 , i believe that 2010 will be the most successful year for PS3.

it cant get much worse for the gaming industry, considering the population is around 60,000,000.

tbh those games are just the same as we have had for years with updated effects, big wow. the whole industry is stuck to the same genres that we have had for the last 25 years.

[s]wow i cant wait for Gran Turismo 59 its going to be the best thing ever![\s] (this is regarding any game on ps3, 360, wii & the pc)

cash cow games riding off the back of a good name is called the EA Sports madden effect.

i see the wii is kicking ass as at least they are making fun games for the whole family not just saddo 15 year old timmy locked in his darkened room 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

>>edit<< sarcasm tags produced a strike-through!

Sucks to be you then if you feel that way. GT alone is showing WAAAY more innovation and possibilities (technical or otherwise) than ANY other publicly offered racing game. Aside from the new physics, damage options, day/night/weather and incredibly accurate tracks you have 2 of the most understated features that will turn gamers and wrench heads on their heads ~ head tracking and GPS Data logging!

I'm sorry av_verbal but I have to definitely disagree with your outlook on at least GT. Gran Turismo 5 is looking to be the TRUE meaning of "definitive racer" this gen! And even die hard PC Sim racers are starting to have their interests peaked with the overall whole package that GT is shaping up to be. One look at the latest in-game GPS datalogger vs Real Life video shows that GT is pretty damned astonishing.

GT5 - Data Logger Fuji Track video

It WILL be a game changer. Just like GT1 was before it...it's not only about "graphics" as most skeptics and biased or misinformed "gamers" try to portray. It's about improved accuracy in physics, accuracy of the tracks (GT pretty much always had this though), improved in game options, added choices of vehicles, added features like day into night racing with rain being a factor plus SOOO much more AND graphics to top it off!
