Sony adds HD films from six major studios to PSN Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced today that they have signed deals to offer HD digital downloads and rentals from all the major movie studios via the PlayStation Network (PSN), the first platform to do so.
"Securing high definition content from these studios is another significant milestone further validating PlayStation Network as a complete entertainment network in the home. PlayStation Network is the first and only service to deliver high definition home entertainment from all six major studios, directly to consumers for download," added Peter Dille, senior vice president, marketing and PlayStation Network, SCEA. "PlayStation Network continues to offer the most comprehensive catalogue of HD movies to PlayStation Network members that realize the wide-ranging entertainment power of the PS3 system."

Currently the films are only available to United States gamers, but should hit the UK, France, Germany and Spain "soon."

Titles available today are (plus the studio they are from):

* 20th Century Fox – "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian", "Jennifer's Body" and "Fantastic Mr. Fox" (on March 23)
* Walt Disney Pictures – Disney Pixar's "Up", Jerry Bruckheimer's "G-Force" and Disney's "Earth"
* Paramount Pictures – "Star Trek", "Paranormal Activity" and "Zoolander"

That nice but, I still don't get any movies in Canada on PSN.

While PSN offers a good range of movies, I won't be DLing any until they have at least 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS audio. The few that do supposedly have multichannel audio didn't work; all i could get was 2ch audio. Reading the Playstation forum I'm far from alone with this.

i'm enjoying my PS3 as a gaming machine and a media player, worth the money :)

I recently purchased an Argosy media player, pretty much a piece of crap... Looks like i'm going to get another PS3 as a media player (AVCHD works flawlessly, showing off b'day parties and graduations can't be any easier).
