Video Daily: Android Market gets PSX emulator

Video Daily: Android Market gets PSX emulator Developer ZodTTD has added the first ever PS1 (PSX) emulator for the Android Market today, charging $6 for the app that will allow gamers to relive memories of the classic console.
Tested by the boys at Phandroid, it appears the emulator will run best on new Android devices, especially those using 1Ghz processors, as it lags on older devices.

"[Well], it's not the smoothest on all devices - you're definitely going to need a recent high-end handset to make the most out of the experience - but it's definitely more than we could [have] imagined at this point," says the site.

"[Still], I can't help but [think] this won't be the most elegant experience on a mobile phone: there are just not enough physical buttons on a phone to emulate the original analog stick-equipped DualShock, and the screen real-estate needed to implement a software-based solution might not be the best for everyone."

Dubbed Psx4droid, the emulator's features include:

Support for WiiMote.
Multiple save states.
Support for various file types.
Trackball used as d-pad.

And remember folks, you'll need a PS BIOS file and ROMs in order to use the emulator.

If it needs 1GHZ, then apple devices wouldn't support it anyway (the iPad is that fast, but the iPad would need more processor power for the larger image). Also, I would imagine that it is written native, so it wouldn't port to apple very easily.

It's on cydia, and apparently it runs fine on a 3GS. I think they are both built from the ground up for both devices.

Yeah...but thankfully, those buttons were not used very much with most PS1 games...and the few that did use them usually didn't use R1 and L1. I may have to put this on my droid to see how many MHZ it takes to play GT2...

[edit]

Just went to their website, it looks like it works with the wiimote, but not with the DS3. I'm not sure I want to spend $6 to play outdated games with terrible controls.

PSX games work great on a custom firmware PSP slim. The PSP with its real/physical buttons provides the perfect gaming experience.
