HTC Incredible costs $163 to make, says iSuppli iSuppli has done a hardware component tear down of the popular HTC Incredible and found that the smartphone costs $163.35 to build.

It is important to note that the hardware tear down does not include R&D, manufacturing, shipping or advertising costs.

The device sells through Verizon for $200 with contract.

By comparison, iSuppli noted that the Apple iPhone 4, with 16GB of storage, costs about $188 to build.

Most of the cost of the Incredible came from three components, its $31.40 processor, its $31.20 multitouch display, and its $30 memory.

iSuppli manager Andrew Rassweiler says the Incredible "could have been dubbed the Nexus Two" because of its extreme similarities. The Nexus One, which launched in January, cost $174 to make.

Wow! So it's a bigger ripoff than the iPhone! Good to know! ;-)

xnonsuchx, how is it a bigger ripoff as there is only $36.65 markup between cost of parts & contract price? iphone is multiple $100's markup between parts cost & contract price.

I would say that they are equal rip-offs...but at least the incredible has a fast processor.

yeah but how much are they really paying for parts.probably a lot less than we'd pay if we brought the parts.

PS2 with 12 games.
pc-windows 7,intel core quad Q8400,4 Gb ddr2,WD 500 GB hdd,ATI Radeon HD 4550 graphics,AOC 22inch LCD moniter.

Yes; they buy parts 100,000 at a time...they get a discount, but I believe that is factored into the $163 price.

Speaking from a completely objective point of view, how do you come to that conclusion if both proccessors are 1Ghz each?

Is that wrong?

well yes.

Its a guess based on an anandtech article on the iphone4.

in some tests is was practially ipad (1GHz) speed, in others it was between the ipad and phone 3GS. but then the ipad was running 3.2, so untill they can compare it to an ipad with 4.0 we wont know for sure, but their educated guess is that it runs at 800MHz. this is never for sure, and apple have never said so.
