Google to start social networking site within six months, says Facebook

Google to start social networking site within six months, says Facebook Facebook has said today that Google is likely to launch a social networking site within six months.
Says Stephen Dolan, commercial director for Asia at Facebook (via Bloomberg): We expect Google to start "a fairly significant social media platform."

When asked for a time frame, Dolan said he expected "three to six months."

Google has been quickly moving towards a social networking launch since Facebook overtook the search giant in weekly traffic earlier this year.

"Facebook is the leader in the emerging Social Web and will face challenges from many players, both large and small," adds Ray Valdes, an analyst for research firm Gartner. "Google is Facebook’s most direct competitor, because Google is dominant in the previous generation of the Web, the content-centric Web."

Yay, another social networking site. Do we really need another? Good grief. Myspace, Facebook and the countless other lesser known alternatives out there are fine. I'm afraid Google joined the party much too late. I'm not the least bit interested in whatever it is they come out wtih.

misinformation Sucks I know.. google has been on social network for awhile now... Orkut, buzz never really cath on the US, they are big in Brazil maybe other countries. Facebook dominates now but myspace did once, maybe aim could been considered social network as well... I don't really care have then all so friends can share whatever... Great to share pictures and thought without having to really talk to anyone... No time to social with everyone that we know, that's a great tool to manage that

Another day, another pointless social site for pointless people. Except in Google's case it'll be free reign on raiding personal info (even more than the other social networks). Well the mindless do flock to such sites to post all their personal details for the world to share.
