Kenneth Cole apologizes for outrageous tweet

American fashion designer Kenneth Cole has apologized for his outrageous tweet earlier in the week, one that used the protests in Egypt to pump his upcoming clothing line.
Read the tweet:

Millions are in an uproar in #Cairo. Rumor is they heard our new spring collection is now available online at [ link ] -KC

The #Cairo hashtag has been used by many to keep the world updated on the news coming out of Egypt.

In the past, Cole has used the same tactics, posting "punny" billboards after 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina.

After thousands commented on Cole's Facebook and replied to his Twitter, the designer responded with two apologies:

I apologize to everyone who was offended by my insensitive tweet about the situation in Egypt. I’ve dedicated my life to raising awareness about serious social issues, and in hindsight my attempt at humor regarding a nation liberating themselves against oppression was poorly timed and absolutely inappropriate.

And later:

I have spent a considerable amount of time reading your comments, and value your insights and feedback. I want to reiterate that my use of levity with regard to this momentous event was extremely inappropriate. My thoughts are with the courageous people of Egypt. -KC

We're living in the Golden Age of BS, where one is required to have a breathing licence and what you can say is set by media weasels or a nineteen year old working towards a degree in social work - whichever.

Pussy, I wouldn't have apologized although I only have like 20 followers.

I wholeheartedly agree with you both. Political correctness has gone too far. F**k political correctness with a rusty railing.

I don't know why he apologized. That statement actually was pretty funny. But then again, the majority of people who use crap like Twitter and Facebook are so in love with themselves and are just desperate for attention, so who gives a s**t. If this story makes major headlines, which it probably will, it just goes to show you that people have nothing better to do with their lives then get all worked up about a little humor.

I don't get it either, people are dying everyday in a fight for freedom. His statement was maybe "funny" but absolutely inappropriate.
