Nokia likely to can several in top-level management The world's top mobile phone maker, Nokia, is on the verge of firing several executive board members, in the largest management "shake-up" in years.
CEO Stephen Elop, in charge since last September, will unveil the overhaul on February 11th.

A few of the executives expected to leave are "Mary T. McDowell, the executive in charge of Nokia's mobile phones unit, Niklas Savander, the manager of the markets unit, Chief Development Officer Kai Oistamo and Tero Ojanpera, the manager responsible for services and mobile solutions," says Reuters.

Elop is allegedly looking "for top people with good software expertise" as the company continues to see its smartphone market share demolished by Apple and Android.

The marketing in North America has been so bad, that all the people from the marketing department should be fired.

The marketing sucks, but just look at what they are marketing...they don't have a chance anyway. Nokia was very clear about the fact that they wanted to focus on low-cost phones for developing nations...and they did just that. The only problem is that people in developing nations have a more urgent need for smart phones than those living in "developed" nations where there are other ways of connecting to the internet.

Essentially, they are focusing on a market that was large, is now small, and will soon be almost non-existent. On top of that, this market can easily be served by small local manufacturers that can tailor products for the local market better, and often at a lower cost.

Get those idiots out of there, start making some phones with good hardware, and dump meego; there is only room for one linux-based smartphone OS...and Android already took the prize.
