Sony can not guarantee the PSN will not be hacked again

Written by Andre Yoskowitz @ 28 May 2011 5:41 User comments (27)

Sony can not guarantee the PSN will not be hacked again In a open letter sent to members of Congress this week, Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai has said that he cannot guarantee the PlayStation Network will not be hacked again despite new policy changes and added security measures.
Last month, Sony took down the PSN following multiple security breaches that left 101 million gamers with their personal data stolen including addresses, phone numbers and even credit cards.

Wrote Hirai:

No security system is absolutely foolproof, and changing conditions in the future can make a currently secure environment less secure.

These gaps in what we know are not for lack of trying by experts, but rather an unfortunate testament to the skill of those who perpetrated the attacks. Some aspects of the intrusion may never be known.

Sony has still not found the identities of the hackers except to subtly accuse the hacking group "Anonymous."

That is true; you can't 100% protect against any attack; however you can be sure there are methods in place to protect against your entire database being taken off, including having someone on hand 24/7 to monitor your security. It may cost more $ on your bottom line, but its money well invested.

Or you can risk losing ? - all your data again.. what the edited does Sony care?

Stating the obvious. Nobody is 100% hacker free.

It's not like I prefer a PC but it does offer way more options the Steve Blowjob can offer.
I've said this before, if the Amiga was a viable option I won't look back.
Far as I'm concerned, the Amiga died in the late '80's when Amiga was sold to Commodore.

Haha blowjob how funny...great to see humor is no longer being reduced to common "dick and fart jokes"..

Also, I'm pretty sure that a lot of people who use apple products know that you can always jailbreak them and run unauthorized applications. So yeah they've known this for quite a while.

REALLY? switch to live. yeah xbox 360 is great. blows paying 60 bucks a year. OH and i forgot youll need to replace your shitty ass broken xbox every 1-2 years. after awhile your warranty will end and you;ll have to pay $100 every time to get it fixed. people who have ps3 have it for a reason. the console is reliable

The only way to stop situations is to disconnect from the internet.

Who is going to do that?

Kaz may also put before congress that water is wet, the sun is hot, and humans are composed primarily of carbon.

A shame that this isn't seen as common sense.

I have to agree, no system is 100% secure just the other day I heard Lockheed a US aircraft maker was reportedly hacked! The governments are not safe from hackers and neither are major corporations. This is why hacking is still considered a form of terrorism!

I understand why people play games online. I was a NFSHII freak.
I'm in the USA... For whatever reason I loved putting it to the Germans.
Now things are out of hand. I just break-out my Logitech G25 and have a go.
Very sad indeed. That's the way of the world in 2011.

You get what you pay for. I will and have gladly payed $60+ a year for xbox live. for better online service.

Sony relyed on its security now it failed and now they dont know what to do or if they can fix it. ( as the title says ) so yes i will keep myself off of psn and on xbox live. im not saying live wont ever be hacked it may some day. But when ya tell your users they cant garuntee your security.... yes i will stay away from that.

Took me 30+ years, 2 $50K degrees and both brow & ass beatings of legendary proportions to figure that out. Been blogging about it ever since. And yet being on what I hope to be your side, feel like I am yelling into an over flowing septic tank.

At least I didn't have to brush my teeth for the event.

I think what Sony was talking about, albeit it was a lame way to put it was that "nothing is guaranteed to be hack free", but yeah, they should really think of a better way to encrypt user data to provide the needed security for the millions of accounts there. I don't think they want credit card data and other personal information exposed like that again.

PC gaming has the best online service & capabilities and it's free...kinda disputes the myth of "paying for something must = better" doesn't it.? Just Sayin'

I used a "temp" credit card number when I needed to but something on the PSN. Most Credit Cards have such features...

Well, of course not. These Japanese are the top minds (at least console-wise) in the industry, but it's really really bad when you can even install firewalls for you servers. And these guys go to college for this? Please!!!

Not to be argumentative, but could it be that Sony is pulling a BP with their server array? Instead of actually putting hardware firewall solutions in place to keep attacks out, they figure a software solution will work... Whoops!!! the rubber broke!!! and now their left with an abortion that got better and it's chasing them all over the house.

I either blogged about this or moaned about it in one of the other forums about how corporations since the 80s have had the 'maximize the minimum' attitude toward their customers and part of me wants to laugh my ass off as I see those baby boomers start to get that attitude crammed back up their asses as they retire and have it handed back to them (because they taught it to their kids).

The other half of my psyche wants to sit in a clock tower with the scope lowered (is that the FBI at my front door?) 'because' of the new generation having been taught the same behavior & their ignorant asses 'think' they can do it better, yet hopefully some of you folks see the mess going on.

Granted, my theory is just that... and I damn sure am not going to start conspiracy (I almost hate that more). It's just another point of view that could lend itself to a portion of the truth.

sorry for being rude but I have to laugh at most of this. some of You think they dont care about your information? of course not!! its all about money. Dont be so stupid about it though. in fact think about it. They want your business. They want your money. WHY THE HELL WOULD THEY GIVE US 2 FREE GAMES? To keep us playing PS3! F****** selfish ass people only thinking about themselves. Try and see both sides of the story. Again They want your business and your money, they are obviously going to try their best to keep sh!t under control. Now Back to the origin of this, Protection of all info? it can never be 100% safe You have to be in a group and hacking a supremely large company down planned for a while.

No one is saying "do not trust us with your information" if thats the case dont trust ANYONE OR ANYTHING with it. now for the statement "No security system is absolutely foolproof," DUH it has been a proven fact! cut sony some damn slack if they didnt a f*** about us they would have done NOTHING!

Nice speech.. Indeed peoples information is your/or business.
I never leave personal info on my PC.
However Sony as a whole are slackers.
It's up to the user weather or not your release personal information on a so-called HTTPS website.
"If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."
I don't agree with punk-ass kids hacking at all. So really, like I said it's up to you.
BTW stop drinking so much booze. How did I know that?;)

Ok, guy. Usually when people have rants they have had too many beers.
If you are Asian you are only allowed one beer anyway. :)
Nothing funnier the seeing an Asian with the alcohol bug. No tolerance to booze at all.
This is all in good fun anyway. Where else can you be an internet bully?
Take care man.
