Apple's new headquarters will have 'spaceship' design

Apple's new headquarters will have 'spaceship' design Apple CEO Steve Jobs has said this week that the company will build a new "spaceship" building in Cupertino, one that can hold 12,000 employees.
Says Jobs (via Reuters):

It's a little like a spaceship landed. There is not a straight piece of glass in the building. We know how to make the biggest pieces of glass in the world for architectural use.

The building will be four stories, circular in shape and have a large 150-acre interior courtyard. Apple's new architecture will be in addition to the company's main campus.

That's rather odd, 12,000 people in a building, in one building. But we've seen these office parks with lots of buildings, and they get pretty boring pretty fast, so we'd like to do something better than that. I do think we have a shot at building the best office building in the world.

Apple bought most of the land from HP.

So, the spaceship that will take all the Apple fanboys to some other planet is going to arrive at last.

I'm pretty sure I will be nor the first neither the last in saying this, but I just couldn't hold it. ;)

Sounds like someone has Google envy

So you have money to build a new campus but you still can't spend money and fix the antenna issue by doing a recall on the iPhone 4. The stupid covers you offer is just a band-aid fix, I get so many drop calls on my phone.

Can't beat Googleplex :D

Need a lot of folks to go through all your personal files once you load them all up onto the "cloud", don't you know.

I really am starting to think I need to put a down payment on that aluminum foil helmet again...

They have the money to do that, or at the very least, to redesign it so that future iPhone4 buyers would not have the problem...but they won't. They knew about the problem before the initial production run, and they built it anyway...THAT MAKES IT INTENTIONAL.

I bet the AppleSphere will lose all internet connectivity when people sit in certain offices.

Ridiculous design. If you need to talk to somebody in another department, you'll have to walk all the way around the circle, or else cut through the middle to get to them. Either way, it's worse than a campus.

Seems to me that Jobs likes to keep his people working in their own departments and doesn't want a lot of people knowing what other departments are doing.

I can't agree more fully!

And on the phone issue they did know of the problem from the start of the design as one of the engineers pointed out to them so they got rid of him and built the poorly designed phone anyway. So it goes beyond Intent and shows their arrogance.

I'm glad I still have my tinfoil hat now I'll just have to find it.
