Noel Gallagher blames video games for UK riots

Noel Gallagher blames video games for UK riots Ex-Oasis fading star crying heart out again over violent video games.
The world watched as parts of British society tore their own cities apart in three days of senseless rioting and looting. Ever since, there has been an ongoing debate about why these regrettable events took place in the UK, and why many of the rioters were clearly very young.

The media has asked politicians, community organizers, psychologists, ex-gang members and even the rioters themselves for their opinion on the disturbances. Of course, who didn't think that eventually video games would be blamed?

Enter Noel Gallagher, the ex-Oasis star currently pursuing a solo career. We wrote about Noel's opinion on Britain's knife crime over three years ago. "People say it's through violent video games and I guess that's got something to do with it," he said in June 2008.

"If kids are sitting up all night smoking super skunk and they come so desensitised to crime because they're playing these videogames, it's really, really scary."

Three years later and Noel is pointing his finger of blame at video games once again, this time as part of the cause for rioting in the UK that claimed several lives, destroyed homes and diminished livelihoods in an already jittery economic climate.

"We live in this age of violence—and I don't care what other people say: Brutal TV and brutal videogames are a reason for this pointless violence as well," Gallagher told Bang Showbiz. "The people are immune to violence, they are used to it. And if they get caught they aren't punished the right way. The prisons are already full? Then build new ones!"

It's likely that more people will blame video games for a large part of the violent scenes on UK streets last week.

Why am I even the slightest bit surprised to hear this?

This guy is still alive? Was my reaction.

I find it funny, they banned that one guy ... who was it? Oh, Michel savage. anyways, they banned him to prevent violence and this happens anyways. Looks like someone made a lapse in judgment, you cannot control peoples lives, this is what happens.

sorry if I took this off topic, I just wanted to put in my 2 cents.

I blame the news for promoting it so much.

I blame Harry Potter for the witch that lives next door.

I wish I could find the older games that his theory is based on. I mean, people only riot because of video games...logically that must mean that they had video games long before the birth of Christ...and they must have been a lot better than the games of today; the UK riot was nothing by roman standards.

Uh... I would assume super skunk would give you a bad case of the munchies, possible couch lock, and giggle fits maybe?

Wasn't this guy a rock star at some point shouldn't he know which drugs have the potential to make someone violent? Alcohol is number 1 just because of its overwhelming prevalence through out the world then you have coke, crack, and meth (dope to because a junkie will do just about anything for a fix eventually)

Pot heads are lazy not violent, somehow I just can't see a pot head mugging an old lady to score another bag.

i was a pothead at one stage and may have been involved in robbing a potato chip factory and a primary school canteen at night due to the munchies.i thought it was drugs that cause oasis to split up.
maybe the riots happened because parents arnt allow to smack there kids or because the youth have too much freedom. I saw a couple of teenage girls talking about the riots with a reporter on the news and they didnt seem to care they were stealing and they didnt have respect for other peoples property.they were also underage and drinking alcohol which they had stolen at 10am in the morning.

But apart from video game riots, what did the Romans ever do for us?

You're really not too bright when it comes to classic film quotes, are you? Either that or you've had a total sense of humour bypass.
