Sprint kills off its unlimited 4G plan for notebooks, tablets, more Sprint has said this week that they are removing the unlimited 4G data option that has been available for tablets, notebooks, USB cards, Mobile Hotspot modems for over a year.
The broadband service will not see a price hike, but the unlimited 4G feature will be removed as of next month.

Users will still have their limited 3G data plan they pay for (3GB, 5GB, 10GB) but the free unlimited 4G feature will be removed.

Sprint had offered the free add-on as they rolled out their 4G WiMax offering to new cities.

Smartphone owners, especially new iPhone 4S buyers should not fret, however:

This change does not apply to phone plans. Sprint continues to be the only national wireless carrier to offer unlimited data use without throttling for smartphones, on both our 3G and 4G networks.

I am confused. Is this just for anything other then phones since the quote mentions unlimited 3G data latter on?

I am not surprise they are getting rid of the data plan on the hotspot/air cards first. Trying to free up bandwith for the phones.

This is just the laptop connect cards (laptop cell modems) and things such as that.

they never had an unlimited 3g option for those, but did offer an unlimited 4g with them.

I'm sure this is to prepare for the transition from wimax to lte.

phones will still be unlimited 3g/4g as long as you have the unlimited plan, which is really the only plans that makes sense with sprint smart phones. unlimited everything @ $80 a month, thats for me.
