Some PSVita titles will require you to own memory card

Kotaku has reported today that some upcoming Vita titles will require gamers to purchase an external memory card.
Many Vita titles will let you save the progress right to the game cart but others will not.

The list (for launch titles):

Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention
@Field
Hot Shots Golf 6
Monster Radar
Dream Club Zero Portable
Touch My Katamari

The memory cards, which are proprietary, will cost around $20 for 4GB or up to $80 for 32GB.

I'll give them props for not making them unreasonably priced, but I still don't get the idea of needing a proprietary memory card. What is this, the 1990's? No one saves on memory cards for the past years. What is this?

I wont buy this until they make a vita with replaceable batteries. Otherwise this is junk.

not reasonably priced, a 4gig Micro SD card costs $5~7 online a retailing costs for the same product is $10~14.

however this does not surprise me its become the norm to have proprietary hardware in consoles and is mostly accepted.

Its just another reason why this thing will fail.

It wouldn't be so bad if you could use a quality memory card bought for half the price...then the Vita would only have 99 nails in the coffin rather than an even hundred.

It wont fail, its the only handheld Gaming device that has enough power to pull current generation console Graphics.

it will out sell the 3DS in a few weeks and may even sell more units than the DS in about 2 years.

im willing to bet a cookie that we'll see micro SD adapters for the memory card slot in the first few months of release.

That's not saying a whole lot. Handheld gaming peaked with the DS and portable aren't going to see those type of sales again. Less people want to pay $200-300 for an extra device carry when the can game on their smartphones or tablet which they are already carrying.

This is exactly right^^

That is also the main reason Nintendo will eventually be forced to eat their own words and start making games for Android, iOS. Many kids (those under 12 that don't have smartphones) will still purchase handhelds like Vita, 3ds but the other markets will likely dry up.

Does a tablet/smart have dedicated controls? does a tablet/smart phone have a dedicated Video chip capable of rendering 3d images? Does a Tablet/smart phone have a 4 core arm processor?

tablets/smartphones are not suitable for detailed gaming on the go and even if they could they wouldn't be as affordable. a $600 dollar tablet or a $250 dollar Gaming handheld.

I think you missed my point. I acknowledge a PS Vita or even 3DS will offer a superior gaming experience to any smartphone or tablet. However, the market is forever changed. Previously a portable console was the only was to have a good gaming experience on the go. This is no longer the case and most people who would buy a portable gaming console are already carrying a smartphone capable of gaming. Many are also already carrying around tablets for other reasons and get the gaming bonus as well.

There will probably always be a market for portable gaming consoles, just like there was a market for Neo Geo (the one with the $200 cartridges). The portable console market is just going to be smaller, but a good amount IMO. Time will tell, but I think the 3DS is already showing was ahead.

which is perfectly fine, but can you play uncharted on a cell phone? how would you Strafe shoot and move forward keeping in mind not all tablets/cellphones have motion sensors and a good majority of touchscreens have issues issuing more than one command at a time. this does not constitute a Fun Experience IMO.

we could argue about it all day but even the Vita doubles as a PMC/Telephony device. Gaming was not the intend function of tablets or Smartphones, just like PMC/Telephony isn't the Vita's strong suit. it can do it just not as well as a device intended for that function.

Actually no, you wont because it uses an M2 card that is damn near the same size as a MicroSDcard and is basically the same but has a different shape.....sony is a bunch of fags
