Is Nintendo considering changing the name of the Wii U?

Is Nintendo considering changing the name of the Wii U? CVG is reporting this week that Nintendo is considering changing the name of the upcoming Wii U console.
Citing "sources close to the platform," Nintendo may looks to rebrand in the very near future. Nintendo allegedly cited public confusion over the 3DS, which has similar packaging and obviously, a similar name to its predecessor, the DS and DSi.

Indeed, president Satoru Iwata told investors last year that Nintendo learned "a bitter lesson" from the 3DS name fiasco.

The Wii U, which was revealed at E3 last year, is a very tiny console with a touchscreen controller that powers the gaming and the console. The Wii U means "Wii (we) can all play as a family or in group formats and yet can be played in "unique" (hence U)."

I know what you meant.. I was just messing around. Many feel the Wii was a wasted system but there just as many (if not more) that enjoy the system regularly. I have both a Wii and a 360 and while there are times I play the 360 more I still get decent use out of my Wii (Boy that sounds bad). I think the console changed the face of gaming to be honest and that is what Nintendo has always been good at. It was criticized for it's non-HD graphics and some really bad games but in all honesty there are some really great games for the console even though some of the 3rd party titles could have been better. I will always be a fan of Nintendo because it was the systems I grew up on and they have never failed me and they always treat their customers right. They may be perceived as the "kiddy" gaming company and to some extent that is true but Nintendo has a knack for bringing out the kid in everyone.

bobiroc I respect that I grew up on them as well SNES was my second gaming system after Atari 2600 had them all. wii just never did it for me like the PS3 360 does.

I liked the WII more so than the fail60 and gilded PS3, but it did fall short control precision wise, I do hope the WII U has some brains about it and not merely be a Frankenstein of various formats rolled into one lumbering console...

Not to take away from your point but the Wii actually can go hd (720p I think...). Besides any one who ranks graphics to be the top priority in a game is not very smart... any way I love the Wii and cannot wait for Wii U :)

Wii can handle up to 720p, but the actual games themselves when played on the Wii only go to 480p. The only way to get the games to scale higher is to play the games through a PC emulator called Dolphin, which will auto scale them to 1080p.

(Note: I did not say to download iso's and play pirated wii games, I said to play wii games through your PC via the Dolphin Emu).
