Nintendo's Iwata questions spec bumps for PS4, Xbox Next

Nintendo's Iwata questions spec bumps for PS4, Xbox Next During a lengthy interview with the Telegraph, Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has given his thoughts on the competition, the yet unconfirmed PS4 and Xbox Next.
The CEO mainly questioned whether the expected boost in specs for the consoles will live up to expectations of gamers.

Adds Iwata: "If they decide to increase the spec numbers, will the consumers be able to realise the difference enough so that they can understand it's much superior to today's machine?"

The boss also notes that if the machines do in fact launch with high-end specs, it will just prove to be a hindrance for devs who will have a steep learning curve.

Iwata believes the uniqueness and experience of the Wii U should leave gamers unconcerned about the next-generation of consoles: "I never think in terms of how we can compete against the other companies, rather our primary focus is to make consumers feel the uniqueness and attractiveness of our products. So any improvements in graphics are just a portion of what we want people to enjoy from Nintendo. More importantly, I want people to say Nintendo are offering unique experiences."

Seems like another CEO taking an Apple approach to their products. It works with Apple, somewhat, but seriously. Nintendo needs to bring back titles people want to play. Stop beating poor Mario to death. You guys had him since Donkey Kong. Time to update. It's approaching 30 years.

From the sound of things, the next Xbox and PS4 will have similar enough architecture (unless you believe the utter BS AMD x86 CPU for the PS4) to their predecessors that there won't be a "steep learning curve" for devs. They'll just be able to do more w/ the spec bump. The Wii U is the same and he doesn't include it as devs needing time to learn it. What a dumba__!

Lol, I respect nintendos marketability, but they get strong sales (in my opinion) through gimmicks, and claims like "brain training keeps your mind sharp" erm yea, so does playing any game what makes u think!!
And people bang on about how much weight they lost using a wii fit board, ha, yea, same result using a skate board or doing anything that increases heart rate.
And the end of the day the wii sux, and the novelty quickly wears off and u realise its time to get rid of it an buy a ps3.
Lol
